I've been running a Vu+ Duo for almost 3 years now. I would echo the comments above regarding the Vu+ Solo. This family of devices are extremely reliable; run like clockwork, in fact are more reliable than the MySky unit we were using, which had two faulty hard drives over a similar period. I routinely copy recordings over the network from my Vu+ Duo to my PC for archiving and this is something not possible with any Freeview-approved device.

I couldn't find Vu+ in any stores online in NZ that looked half serious that sells them. So my best bet is to import? Or do you guys have any suggestions where I should go to get it?

AFAIK, nobody has been selling them in NZ for about 3 years now. I know of two people who imported theirs from the UK.

Yeah importing is probably your only option as there don't seem to be any local distributors. As Grant said, easiest is probably from the UK but I found prices/exchange rate was better against the Euro so ended up buying from a French company (BF Sat).

The Vu+ Solo2 I got has two fixed DVB-S2 tuners, (can add USB tuners as well if need be). The Duo2 has two plugable slots for the tuners so you can mix and match satellite, cable or terrestrial. You can get dual DVB-S2 ones so can be made into a Quad tuner if you wish.

I find the two tuners in the Solo2 works fine most of the time although the shift of Prime to the Sky transponder means a third would be handy sometimes.

So, after looking at it I am of two minds:

1) Its awesome!
2) It may be a little too geeky in how it operates. Seems like it could be a handful to manage.

Am I wrong about no. 2?

Not really that geeky... tho it can be if you like to tinker! If you just want it up and running it was all pretty staight forward.

Mine arrived running a 'stock' firmware image. There are a number of different images out there with slightly different look, feel and functionality. I downloaded about 6 different ones to try out.

You just download the image, put it on a flash drive and then plug the flash drive into the unit. The 'upgrade' only takes a minute or so on these units then you're good to go. Most have a startup 'wizard' to get you going a you need to know a few settings but it ain't that difficult. Unless you're a complete technophobe you'll be fine!

...So basically no, not a handful to manage at all. After a couple of weeks trying different images I settled on one and haven't had to touch settings at all since then and that's nearly a year ago now :-D

The thing just WORKS!
