no - I've not tried the Freeview box / HDMI lead on another TV... that would be too much of a hassle to do.... and I don't know how to change the output.... will have to have another read of the freeview manual

Then no amount of us telling you what is/could be wrong is going to help if you are not prepared to do a little bit of basic trouble shooting and this falls squarely into the basic category

I don't see what connecting the freeview box and HDMI cable to another TV would do, as I've tried different HDMI leads.... and besides it's almost impossible to test as the other (main) TV is in the lounge where the sky dish connection is and the UHF aerial connection is in the bedroom where the 2nd TV and freeview box is.

Are both the HDMI cable you have tried from the same place?
You can get shielded ones, or ones with the ferrite beads - it may make a difference.
Also, definitely try a new flylead from the wall to the STB, or try re-terminating the plug on the one you have.

no - one is a cheapie from the warehouse and the other is a more expensive one, both with the same result
