If I do buy a UHDTV does anyone know how long it will be before 4K players/recorders will be available ? Is it likely that movie distributors will skip the 4K DVD stage and go to internet downloads only? If they do introduce 4K DVDs isnt there a risk that only limited titles may be available as is the case with Blue-ray? Cheers.
I have not bought my new TV yet ! I have been tempted by Samsungs curved screen ( with the gladiators ! ) but need to see one working before making a decision. For me , that means a day trip to either Mt Maunganui, Auckland or Hamilton. In the meantime , can anyone who has bought a curved screen TV give me a review of their experience ? Cheers.

I just hope you will have some content to watch...could you get a second hand full HD TV to see you over a year or so until prices come down and we see if any content comes available?

sony have a new one in the usa. rent or buy streamed content.

From what I've seen the high level of curve undermines the viewing experience. To enhance it the curve would have to be slight, and if it was slight people wouldn't notice it, and noticing it is the point as it's there for marketing reasons. The AX800 is 3" bigger than the 55" HU9000, cheaper and should be better to watch. The Sony 55X8500B is much cheaper too.
JBHifi is selling 4k televisions "at cost" until Tuesday so unless you're holding out for a future model now is a good time to consider buying.
4k Blu-ray players are set to arrive in late 2015 or early 2016.
Disable overscan on 4k televisions or else it'll degrade the scaling quality for 1080 content.
I just realised you're watching Freeview Satellite. That is lower than DVD quality. For that quality picture maybe you should just get an affordable 42"?
