I am also in the process of getting a UHD TV, and was considering buying the accompanying 3D 4k upscaling DVD player, at the time i was thinking that i would need to buy say a Magic TV for freeview recording, and a 3D, 4K upscaling DVD player for my Blu Ray, 3D and 4K content. I think this Panasonic unit may tick all of those boxes, 3D, Ultra HD, Freeview and able to record stuff and series link them etc?

Am i thinking about this right?

I bought the panasonic 835 and was a bit disappointed in the user interface/EPG. It is definitely a step down from the mysky interface.

You should download and read the panasonic manual if you are interested.

Can anyone confirm that the 835/840 have a series link button?? I'm not sure I can be bothered to set individual episodes for shows I'd like to record.

Whenever you select a programme from the EPG to record it on the 835, you get a popup box asking whether you want to record the whole series, so yes

As for UI quality, it is different to, and arguably not as good as, the MySky HDi box. But the picture quality is better, recording capacity greater, you can watch recorded programmes on any connected device and there is no monthly cost. Personal preference as to where the best compromise lies
