There isn't any spare capacity on D1, the only real solution is SKY unlocking their HD rebroadcast of 1,2,3. I doubt there will be any changes until Sky moves everyone to DVB S2 compatible gear. They seem to have forgotten about receiver upgrades that were suppose to happen earlier in the year.
For more remote users who don't have RBI, I think broadcast is the only sensible way to deliver much TV content. How many have plans with a satellite provider that would let them stream 1080p Netflix without breaking the bank?
When you have a platform that is one headend to many subscribers it is a quite different model than terrestrial.
