Freeview DTT Service Name Announced 13th March, 2008

So who is going to go after them this time for not being "free" and not being 100% HD?

They say the HD logo will appear in the EPG for programs that will be broadcast in native HD.
Will MediaPortal's EPG show these?

Does media portal have an MHEG-5 EPG?

Is the EPG on DVB-T going to be different to the one on DVB-S?

Yes. The DVB-T 7 day EPG is MPEG5 only. The EIT tables only contain the current and next show whereas the DVB-S platform transmits the next 7 days in the EIT tables.

I too am upset there won't be HD content available. I was in Sydney watching it on our friends 1080 LCD TV and it was a totally different experience. I couldn't wait, so I looked around for a DVB-T tuner in NZ, but they won't be released till April. But a friend put me on to a website www.cuttingedgetoys.co.nz selling DVB-S tuners with Smart Card for $120. They said they bought one and purchased a larger dish and smartcard off Ebay. They watch Sky from Australia and channels from other countries. I'm not too sure how this works. I bought the 42" 1080 LCD TV and set top box and it goes great. I'm just not sure where to get the Smart card from, anyone got any ideas?

The Box you linked above is only SD. You say they watch Sky from Australia, exactly what do you mean. Foxtel transmissions cannot easily be seen in NZ nor SkyNZ's transmissions seen in Aus without a very large dish (think 10m dia). Further the box shown cannot in any way deal with NDS VideoGaurd used by SkyNZ or Foxtel, however if it did have a Irdeto capable CA card (which the blurb does not imply) then it possibly could see the ABC transmissions on C1, to get that in NZ is not impossible however is in essence illegal. This is the Optus Aurora service, to get a card for it requires that you demonstrate to the australian authorities that you live in a remote are of Australia (not NZ) that does not have terrestial coverage.

I was lead to believe that it was possible to pickup all the Aurora channels using ~3.2Meter dish with good quality Prime KU LNB off C1. Not that I actually know if it's possible or not, but I thought it could be done. Whereas off D1, it wasn't possible to pickup either countries signal "out of band" in the other country due to the newer satellite having a more directional transmitter. Austech or Vetrun have spoken about these sorts of things in length in the past. Just wish my wife would allow anything larger than a 85CM dish on our house. <sigh>

Peter you are quite possibley correct 3m may be suffiecent, however at the end of the day its a little more complex that the poster tried to make it seem, and we are still only talking aus govt FTA channels (plus C7/NITV/Imparja) not Sky (presumably meant Foxtel) as the geekfreak attempted to proport.

The 7 day EPG is transmitted, the unit just needs to support MHEG5 to be able to view it rather than the usual EIT standard.
