No Freeview guide or menu? Good point. I overlooked that. Was never a problem for me as DVB-S Freeview has access to the 7-day EPG via EIT information so doesn't need the MHEG-5 EPG Freeview uses. The DVB-T FreeviewHD service uses MHEG-5 EPG also but only has 24 hours (?) of EPG via EIT information. I know if you have both DVB-S and DVB-T tuners in the Vu+ units you can pull the 7-day EPG from satellite service. May need to investigate this further...

I believe the FreeviewHD DVB-T EIT data now has the same 7 days as is available via MHEG-5.

I don't have a DVB-T tuner in use with my Solo2 so couldn't confirm that. If that's the case then I would maintain that the Vu+ Duo2 with 2 X Dual DVB-C/T2 tuners would be great option. Except for the lack of FreeviewPlus compatibility, it will do everything the Panasonic units do and more.

...Just thought I'd give the FreeviewPlus Ondemand apps another crack with my Solo2... No Dice! The Apps load and you can view the show menus etc. but when you try to play anything, the advert starts, but then stops after a couple of seconds... really makes me think it must be some kind of DRM blocking it when it realizes it's not an 'Official' Freeview unit trying to access it.

Yup there are very limited solutions in nz. Turning the freeview plus option off on our panny solved the problem for us with no black screens for about 2 weeks or so now. They are a good unit if they didn't have the current issue they have.

no that's not right, according to Panasonic you must be imagining this. It is all caused by your very very bad signal. Also if you are having to turn off features your paid for then its not free of fault as defined in the CGA and Panasonic need to deal with it instead of making terrible phone calls to customers.

It is a signal related issue..trees etc grow and block reception over time. Doesnt seem to be any work done on improving poor reception FreeView areas. But yes we dont have much choice with hardware..I personally would want another tuner on my set-top box.

I agree.

I don't think there's any Freview Plus Certified piece of equipment that has worked problem free since Freeview Plus was introduced. That's one of the main reasons I never bothered updating my gear. IMO Freeviw Plus is just a total waste of time and should never have been introduced. My older Panny Recorder (BWT720) and Sony TV have never had any problems since I bought them and I use a HTPC for all my online viewing. Never have any problems with it. It just works for streaming and catch ups. My advice to anyone with Freeview Plus equipment is disable the Freeview Plus side of it and enjoy trouble free operation. However all these problems seem to indicate that none of the new Freeview Plus equipment is fit for purpose under the CGA. Maybe if more people started returning gear for refunds the Manufacturers would get the message.

My antennas  have direct line of sight to two towers with nothing between.

I have tested at another home and turned off Freeview Plus and all Timer recording along with the following'

·         Replaced HDMI Cables.
·         Replaced aerial cable from the wall outlet to unit.
·         Ensured no device capable of interference is on the same power circuit.
·         Factory reset unit.
·         Tested unit on separate TV’s with separate aerials.
·         Cleared the HDD
·         Checked signal strength which reports as 10/10
·         Checked and cleaned all external aerial connections etc
·         Tested the unit with no network connections
·         Tested the unit with WiFi network connection.
·          Tested unit with wired Ethernet network connection.
·         Ensured the unit is not being exposed to any external heat sources.

After investigating alternatives I feel the products available in NZ for Freeview fail and barely meet fit for for purpose requirements. In short they are junk.
I was visiting a friend who has a Dish T2200 and he advised that seldom an evening goes by without issues and he has to power cycle the device several times per week.

I am seriously considering returning to SkyTV just to get a device that works.

100% agreed.

The state of free to air tv in NZ is pathetic in terms of devices available and support offered.

I cannot even discover who is Freeview....is it government or what?

Who can we call to bitch?
