My box has no brand name, just DVB-S2. I bought it on AliExpress. I think I just picked the cheapest one. Don't remember exactly what it cost, but it wasn't much. It has worked perfectly for several years though I don't use it much.

I think modern Sky dishes are around 60 cm. I don't know if that is sufficient for IS19. I believe early ones were bigger, some as much as 90 cm. I have measured mine and it is 80 cm. It may have been a one-off, from the installer's private stock.

A friend with proper equipment installed the D2 LNB for me, but I did the IS 19 one myself. I took the receiver up to where the dish was and used my laptop with an Easycap digitiser to view the signal. I set the receiver to a known IS 19 transponder I got from Lyngsat and just held the LNB in my hand and moved it around until I got a signal. I estimated the position by eye and fabricated a bracket with some bits of plastic, which I added to the existing bracket. I then fine-tuned the position while watching the image on the laptop. I don't remember having to adjust the skew at all. Maybe I was just lucky. It is still working fine after several years. If you are into experimenting, you may also be lucky. I remember at the time I was surprised how easy it was. I watched bits of Nine on and off while it was on D1 and later also on IS19. I have never had any problem receiving it.

That actually sounds great. I'm definitely gonna look into it. I think our dish is also 80cm but I'll investigate once im back in akld.

Do you believe this model will work?

(Nevertheless is it fails then it will still be a great Freeview/WiFi STB... We're planning to cut SKY)

Thanks for that, Rikkitic.

No worries. I think all of these are pretty much the same and should work. I don't see my exact model but it was several years ago. The Freesat looks very similar though, and costs about the same. The main thing with these boxes is you can never be sure about quality. The one I have now is perfect but others have crapped out on me, even a much more expensive Openbox. For that reason I now tend to let price be my guide to limit my loss if it dies.

The channel 9 you refer to that was on D1 then IS19 is not the same feed there are 2 channel 9 transmissions on IS 19 the 1st use to be a 24x7 single feed of channel 9 in DVB S2 That feed is now mostly a testcard and video feeds. The other t.p which is a full mux of various Australian channel 9 for different regions is the one that is hard to get unless you have a compatible receiver.

How long has that been the case? I haven't tried it for awhile, but the last time I did it worked fine. That was maybe a few months ago.

OK I got curious so went and turned on the sat receiver. It works perfectly on Nine with my little no-name DVB-S2, so whatever is required, this cheap receiver (around $30) does the job. I can find no name or model designation on it so cannot give more information. It was a few years ago when I bought it on AliExpress but I would imagine that current comparable models do the same.

(Or maybe I was just lucky with timing and happened to pick up a feed? I didn't watch it for long but it does seem to work.)

Nah you were right. I went back and watched it for awhile and eventually I did end up with the test pattern. While it was working I was getting the Sydney feed. I think it was 12551/3750/V on my receiver but I'm not completely sure and I can't check it right now. I also ran a blind scan but no sign of the full mux. Now I'm curious what it actually takes to receive it.

Needs a 16 APSK receiver that supports MIS multistream

There are many cheap chinese units out there that claim to support 16 APSK modulation but they fail when it comes to handling the MIS multistream format

They will load a few channels but not all the regions

the newer xscruiser handles them easily in the newest firmware
