Assuming (!) you have one of the LNBs that Sky installed a few years ago, they had up to 4 outputs that work independently of each other, so it shouldn't matter at all which one you connect to.

Having said that, the other possibility is there is a splitter somewhere in the system - is there anything connected at all to the other cable in the other room?

Nothing connected to other cable. Also no splitter as I traced the two cables and also helped install them a couple of years back.

I assumed the cables were parallels. Just wanted to be sure.

I very much appreciate your help with this.

I see that when I attempt to change the Transponder freq it defaults to 12483. The sequence I am using is to change the Transponder to 12456 and then if I change anything else such as the 22KHz tone on or off then the Transponder freq reverts to 12483

I have found an option for a User defined Satellite. Can set the Transponder freq to anything but, SR only has 22000, 27500 and one other option.

Also has option to turn LNB power off.

Should I give this a go?

RunningMan knows what he is talking about but I will try to explain a couple of things just to hopefully clear up any confusion. First, the DiSEqC switch. If you have one it will be somewhere on the dish, near the LNB. It will be small, like a packet of cigarettes. There will be cables connecting to it from the LNB and a cable from it to your TV. But this does not sound like what you have, since you say you have more than one cable coming from the LNB. In that case you should keep it switched off in your settings, as RunningMan says.

You don't need a dual LNB for Freeview. If that does turn out to be the source of your problem, and it doesn't sound like it to me, You can get a cheap single one on TradeMe for around $30 or so. You say you helped install the cables. What was that all about? Did Sky not do that? Did you have Sky working on both cables? It might still be worth moving the TV to try the other one.

Rikkitic and Runningman, I am very grateful to you both for your time.

I simply helped the installer run the cables. It was intended to have 2 decoders in separate areas of house thus my assumption they were simply parallel outputs of the same signals.

Is there anything you can see in the screenshots that appears to be mis-set?

Incidentally I ensured the TV firmware is up to date via internet.

RunningMan knows more about this than I do. I just dabbled with satellite reception a few years ago as a hobbyist. Your settings look correct to me from what I can see. It might be worth trying another scan with the LNB set to 11300 as a single type with the switch off just for the hell of it. The only other thing I can think of is your transponder settings. In addition to frequency, you also have horizontal and vertical polarization. If that is somehow wrong it also won't work. I think there are two Freeview transponders, frequencies 12456 and 12483, both horizontal. Make sure those are correct, though from your screen grabs it looks like they are.

Try that user defined transponder and see what happens. Symbol rate needs to be 22500.

Other than that, everything seems to now be correct.

The next thing I would suggest is trying the user defined transponder, but altering the frequency slightly - say 12480 and 12486 rather than 12483. The reason for this is trying to eliminate a faulty LNB - as they age, the LO can become temperature sensitive and drift out slightly, and manually adjusting it in the receiver can help. If this fixes it, then the proper solution is to replace the LNB as it is failing.

Again, just for completeness, try the TV plugged into the other cable - from the setup you have described, it should be exactly the same as the current one, but just trying to rule out any fault with the cables or LNB.

Yep, so that confirms the 10750 single LO setting is correct. Might just be the LNB is failing - has the dish been used recently for anything?

In the user settings I also have an option for LNB power ON/OFF. Should it be ON?

Whilst it possible that the LNB has died in the hours between disconnecting the Sky STB and starting this now somewhat protracted process I would be a bit surprised.

In the Samsung TV software settings I have an option to select various satellites from all around the world. I am guessing the LNB and Transponder settings are extracted from a database in the software. When I try to set the Satellite to the OPTUS D1 (which is what it automatically selects if I choose Freeview Satellite in the initial options instead of Terrestrial or Satellite)

then start the scan, select a different Transponder frequency such as an 12456MHz as soon as I change another setting or if I start a scan (unsuccessful as always) then go back to the settings it has reset the Transponder to 12483MHz. Could it be that even though I change the selection that as I start the scan it recalls the Transponder freq from the database and ignores what I have done? This would be a software issue that needs correcting.

Also in the User Sat settings I do not have a selection for SR 22500. The only offered selections are 22000KS/s, 27500 and 29900

A new LNB is only $15 on TradeMe. Perhaps I should grab one and start from scratch?

Going on from that, does it simply mean I have a Transponder selection issue.

I really appreciate all the help and fully understand how hard it is to have a complete numbskull on the other end of your posts.

Umm. The text says to 'Select the connected aerial that you want to use to get channels'

You have selected 'Terrestrial'. Maybe a dumb question but doesn't that selection switch between UHF input and Satellite input and you should have Satellite selected? Can't find this in the manual though. If you really do have UHF input selected then I'm surprised you can receive the test signals in the other pictures.

Hi Bigglz,

Definitely have not been selecting Terrestrial. That is a Line of Sight UHF option. I am purely using Satellite Freeview Satellite. I am being guided by a couple of very knowledgeable ppl here who are also proving very generous with their time.

Runningman and Rikkitic I have just noticed when looking at the test patterns that the LNB test from Sky is for SKY D3. Is this significant or is it just getting the LNB test signal from a transponder named D3 on the OPTUS D1 satellite?

D3 is one of the Sky satellites. This is getting over my head but if you are seeing the Sky test pattern on D3 then you are looking at the wrong satellite. D3 only has the test pattern. It is not yet used for anything else in NZ. According to Lyngsat, the transponder frequency for that should be 12707H. Is that what you are seeing? I don't have any experience of the dual throat Sky LNBs but if they are designed to point at two different satellites, then maybe there is some kind of switching issue that has you looking at the wrong one. If so, someone who knows more than I do will have to help you.

Just a thought. Try turning the 22khz tone back on but keep everything else the same.
