I've tried boosting the merit of MediaPortal's File Reader filter however it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Uninstalling Haali causes graphedit and media player to outright fail which seems to indicate that the MediaPortal filter is not registered in such a way as to enable it to step up and take it's place.

Sigh

A HandBrake developer has some code in development that will take a NZ Freeview MPEG-TS and transcode it to an MP4, MKV, or AVI. It will de-interlace if required and resize/crop if appropriate.

The developer is working with Fossie's Freeview samples. At present there is a bug in the SVN version of FAAD for the AAC decoding which is preventing it working 100%.

I'll let the forum know when it is working and available to the public.

HandBrake works on Mac, Windows, Linux and Solaris.

The nice thing about using HandBrake for the transcoding is that it is fast compared to other encoders, and that it allows fine control over the h.264 options being used so that you can taylor the file the capabilities of your output device.

Cheers, Ed.

Is Media Portal doing more than just saving the transport stream?  I can use this technique on ts files saved with DvbViewer, no problems.  Additionally I can play the ts files from My Videos in Vista Media Centre.  However I need the PowerDVD 8 filters.  If you don't have these then you must be right about the MP filters not being able to 'set up' - have you tried playing the ts in graphedit?.

It does sound like the Handbrake utility will be useful when available.

Hmm I have found Movie Maker now lol.. But it wont load the files.

I'm having the same issue as RebelCommando with Haail media splitter not splitting the audio track correctly.

Graphedit shows the file -> Cyberlink H264/AVC Decoder -> VMR but nothing regarding audio.

I have also tried making Cyberlink PowerDVD8 Audio Decoder higher priority for DirectShow but this doesnt work either,

Uninstalling Haali stops Movie Maker and WMP from playing the file.

66sayegh: do you have any other codecs/splitters/muxers installed? ffdshow? If not I am going to try format (need to anyway) and only installed PowerDVD8 to see if thath works.

I have ffdshow installed as well, PowerDVD 7 and 8, DivX and AC3.  No codec packs, not Haali filter, not MediaPortal or GBPVR; but it has been almost 6 months since my last rebuild, so almost anything could have snuck in there without me noticing.   Ffdshow does have a tendency to insinuate itself into various process even though I have tried disabling most of it.  I will post some graphs from graphedit over the weekend.

This whole area is such a mess.

Hey guys,

I'm also trying to get this to work and have been going a bit nuts with it! - I'm not actually worried too much about the audio at this stage (I can source this seperately, but for my purposes I doubt I'll need it anyway).
I've tried Virtualdubmod without much luck (either it doesn't open the files or it converts them but there's loads of jumping and changes in the frame rate??). Super can't do it, and even Graphedit seems to crash when I've tried to use it to work out what's going on (although to be fair I've got no real idea how to use Graphedit!)
If I can do without the audio, can anyone tell me how to just get the HD video converted (ideally into an uncompressed format as I want to edit it) from scratch (i.e. the .ts files from GBPVR or MediaPortal)? - I've got a newly reinstalled copy of XP onto which I can put PowerDVD 8 or whatever but I just want something that's going to work...

Here is the grapedit graph.  I reckon if you can get to the point that you can open the ts file in grapedit and get this graph, and it plays, you should be able to edit/burn it with Windows Movie Maker/DVD Maker.

btw, I am 32 bit Vista.

Well I couldn't get the bitmap attahed, so I will describe it:

The Full Monty.ts ---> Cyberlink Demux (PDVD8) --->Cyberlink H264/AVC Decoder (PDVD8) -->  Video Renderer
    |
    |-------------------> Cyberlink Audio Decoder ---> AC3 Filter --> Default Direct Sound Device

I can swap 'Cyberlink Audio Decoder (PVD8)' for 'Cyberlink Audio Decoder' and it still works.
A bit of a surprised to see Ac3 Filter there, but I have configured it to accept all the common formats.
If I swap 'EVR'  for 'Video Render' I get sound but the video window does not appear.  Maybe this is just grapedit.

hmm, thats exactly the same as what i get in graphedit, but it still plays with no audio, and wmm gives an error and cannot import it.

are you able to put up a 30 second sample of a ts that you are working with? id like to try it to see if its somehow different to what i am getting.

i dont really know much about graphedit, but am i suppose to be able to insert the monogram codec in the audio chain? when i try, it just crashes or does not attach.

joeexception - other than in this thread, i havnt heard of anyone doing it yet. i think we are waiting for an impending fix to faad2 or for ffdshow to update aac in their filter. must be close, hopefully in the next few weeks handbrake will work for us

Well i'm making progress...

Can get the correct graph using Cyberlink's demuxer.
Can open/play files in WMP/MCE/MovieMaker.
Can split/join/remove ads in MovieMaker
Can export from MovieMaker into WMV, yet to try DVD

Issues that i'm working on...

Audio is out of sync to video in MovieMaker (Sync fine in WMP/MCE - possibly the Decoder? will try forcing Monogram AAC decoder as better quality)
CPU Usage through the roof
EVR not being used (merits)
Correct merrits to make this work but not affect other programs (MediaPortal etc)

Will update with outcomes/guide once I've nutted this out!

wmm throws an error if you have the file being imported open in another process e.g. graphedit.

You could try disabling codecs in wmm - Tools >  Options.  Nero and some versions of ffdshow, among others, can cause it problems.

this seems to work fine in graphstudio, but WMM will not import the file unless haali is installed. Is there a way to force wmm to use the cyberlink codecs or something?

I Have also been looking at ways to transcode and here is what I found.

Advert removal - H264TS Cutter works perfectly for ad removal and its free

Audio Conversion - I then use DGAVCIndex or TSConverter to demux the audio which I pass through winamp's file writer output to get a wav file of the audio.
I have been attempting a couple of ways on encoding using AviSynth in DirectShowDecode mode seems to work best which I can load in VirtualDub, MeGUI or RipBot264 (which makes the script for you) to encode with. I have successfully reencoded TV3 to 720p MP4 file which is playable on the Xbox 360

Programs used:
H264TS Cutter http://www.h264tscutter.de/show_artikel.php?id=5
DGAVCIndex http://neuron2.net/dgavcdec/dgavcdec.html
TSConverter http://www.dvbportal.de/projects/tsconverter/
MeGUI http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui
RipBot264 http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipBot264 (note: Use Version v1.8.10 or before as it uses DirectShowSource which works better than AVCSource which doesn't work well for interlaced content)
