Odd.

I moved the HTPC out from my room into the lounge, and now everything works OK except the Mediaworks channels.

'Unable to start graph
Unable to start timeshifting'.

Meh.

It was human error with the antenna booster. Had the plugs in the wrong way around.

Well, moving to Vista and getting that antenna booster made a MASSIVE difference. BUT: I am pretty sure I can get a better antenna for less than I paid for that booster ($81).

What is the best 'indoor' one? I have seen that panel shaped one that some people use indoors but I can no longer find the link to it.

I was watching Dexter last night on 3 while recording Brainpower on 1. Dexter looked to be dropping frames but was watchable and the TV1 recording was a little jerky but otherwise Ok. I put this down to lack of RAM though (1gb on Vista Ultimate, with Aero off).

I've started a new job, so have a bit of money coming in, I think I will get another gb of ram, and a 8500gt.

If I do go the Nvidia route, how exactly will I wire it to my TV?

I'll get a DVI to HDMI adapter (my TV does not have DVI in), but what about audio? I just use sound through my TV (no home theatre receiver yet), it does not have a TosLink or SPDIF input (that i know of). It's a Panasonic 38" Plasma (Panasonic make 2 38"ers, this is the higher end one).

I'd rather not revert to straight stereo (unless this is how Freeview HD is broadcast).

Depending on the vidio card some have audio passthough to HDMI via the DVI plug on the vidio card. You just need to have SPDIF that you can feed it from your soundcard.

I can confirm that this card can do this as it is what I am using.

If you look in the picture they have you can see two pins just to the left of the heatsink at the top of the card. They are labeled J5.

I am sure others have this feature also but of course cannot confirm this.

That was the card I was looking at! Does it come with the little wire?

So, what I will be doing is:

HTPC -> 8500GT -> DVI Female to HDMI Male Adapter -> HDMI Male to Male Cable -> PLASMA
SPDIF ------^

Sorry for my bad ASCII art, but does this seem right?

but you can get dvi to hdmi cables = no need for the adaptor (unless you already have the male 2 male hdmi i guess)

Yip that is correct although I just brought a Cable that had DVI one end and HDMI at the other.

As far as the little cable unfortunately not. I grabbed one of the CD drive to Soundcard cables I had lying around and cut the plugs in half leaving two wires at each end. the one I used the wires were just wound together rather then encased is a plastic sheath so it worked quite well.

I already have a HDMI male to male cable, so that was my reason for that. I will look into what I can use for the little cable.
