I just started recording .ts files and also want a program to edit the files (the ads etc.). Found this one

TS Packet Editor

It edits the file okay but you need to be able to actually play the file with WMP so that all your directshow filters are in place else you won't be able to see the file when editing.

Can play TS files in WMP but don't get any sound. Can anyone help?  Would be nice to be able to play back the files I have recorded in DVBViewer in MC.

PS. Just noticed the movie playing on TV3 has 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, nice

I think to get audio you will need either something lik PowerDVD8 which has builitin AC-3 support or you will need to install a AC-3 Directshow filter so WMP can decode the audio.

True....I have only tried files with AAC audio, the files with DD should play no problem.

I recorded it because it was HD and had 5.1 sound. Alas that doesn't make up for the poor movie it was (or perhaps it's targeted at a different group of viewers than the typical GZ member!)

@lchiu7don't be like that.  it's quite alright to admit you're a Lindsey fan. :o)

Must find time this week to try the MP Video Editor plugin, maybe when the kids are out.

spideronfire: I have found only one program which can cut the h264 ts files and keep them as a ts and its called...........
H264TS Cutter which you can find here -> http://www.h264tscutter.de/show_artikel.php?id=5
After cutting I use DGAVCIndex to demux the audio and then run that trhough winamp's fileoutput plugin to get a wav file.
For encoding I use AviSynth and DirectShowSource to get the video into virtualdubmod.

Tried this app on the weekend - works as it says it does. Nice and easy. Thanks spideronfire.

I'm using it to cut DVB T freeview captured in Media Portal (C4 music videos) Played back in Media Portal with no issues.

I used the app recently. You do have to make sure you can view the .ts files in say WMP so that you have all the right filters loaded, else you can't see a preview as you edit :(  The Haali Media splitter is pretty good filter to install.

I have been experimenting with compressing these .ts files but maintaining reasonable quality. What I have is done is

1. Edit the files using h264tscutter
2. Demuxing them tsremuxer to get the AC-3 stream out
3. Compressing the files into H.264 lower bit rate using x264.exe with various profiles selected
4. Putting the files back into a MKV container using MKVMerge

Works pretty well. Quality is maintained and space saved.

However only doing this for an experiment. I don't plan to seed these files (!) and disk space is so cheap now it's not worth recompressing them
