hmmm tv-headend looks quite cool, didn't know it supported Freeview via the internet with an EPG without even needing a tuner card.

I want to run a single parity drive, and if I go with OMV I will use snapshot.

I currently have 4x 3TB + 1x 4TB + 1x 6TB + 4x 8TB (5400 rpm archive styles) + 256 GB SSD

The parity drive will probably be an archive 8tb drive, so it will be very slow. (I could potentially use 3x3TB to parity instead).

With that combination of disks traditional software raid (mdadm etc) and ZFS are off the table, they need matching disks. Another option might be SnapRAID and MergerFS, this is a pretty good guide. That guide is written buy the same guys who maintain the docker containers referenced earlier. The OMV-Extras repository will allow you to easily install SnapRAID and MergerFS on OMV, otherwise that guide steps you through installing it directly on Debain.

Just an update. The setup I choose was:

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Server OS
Dockstarter package for installing and maintaining docker containers.
Plex with lifetime pass in a docker.
Radarr sonarr etc in dockers.

Client is currently a pi 3b running rasplex, however I think it's not the best client but will do for now.

Freeview TV not integrated yet, but leaning towards getting a network tuner or using iptv.

Does anyone have IPTV type setup in Plex? Not even sure if it's supported.

Im in the process of testing OMV with tvheadend (with 3 DVB-T tuners). Long term plan is to turn my Win10 MP1 computer into an OMV system with all my downloading and streaming requirements built in. I tested it with my RPi3's running osmc connected via LAN and found they just didnt seem to be able to cope with live TV streaming from it - too many artifacts etc. I have an Android box turning up (X96 Max - 4/64GB version running Android 8.1 - I'll chuck Kodi with the tvheadend tv plugin on it) so not going to do much more till that turns up. My NUC connects to it and runs perfectly so I dont expect it to be a problem.

Tvheadend (in docker) was a bit of a pain in the arse to get working the way I wanted but I finally have it done the way I want. It needed a few extra commands (like a script on the computers startup to give access to the DVB cards) but once I got it worked out its looking good. Even the guide works!

My long term goal is to have DVB tv working flawlessly, IPTV working flawlessly (I took a quick look at it, not hard to set up), have all my devices connecting to it via Kodi and just not have the trouble of leaving Windows in the mix anymore - the later versions of Windows 10 have just been a nightmare for mediaportal (and kodi from my understanding).

I'm currently using rasplex on a pi 3b currently for a Plex client. It seems to play most formats directly and you control it via the Plex app on your phone. You pick a movie in the phone and choose the rasplex as the playback device.

If you start a Plex server then within a few weeks you get an offer for Plex pass lifetime for 80usd. I don't think you need to pay for a local server anyway.

What are you getting from IPTV that wouldn't be covered by Freeview DVBT?
