I think you miss the point. While the PS3 can access any kind of storage from the network, it cannot IIRC write to network storage. Hence my point about, stick in a 1Tb drive in the PS3 and that's fine but you will have problems with a USB devices since they will have to be FAT32 and therefore have filesizes limited to 4Gb.
I see yr point about the fat32 factor. DVD's string near seemless chapters and scenes toghter from smaller files... And I've never seen a DIVx / mp4 (whatever) bigger than 4Gb anyway. Obviosly that's going to balloon outof control quickly too with 1080x60fps.
Theres more Balls ups than that form SONY onto their 3rd console now..?!
I don't think storage is an issue over all.
