There is a menu option in the Hills that lets you scan outside FreeView muxs, I cannot remember how to access it but I have dont it in the past and had a Hills box working on successfully on D2.

I'm in the same boat, and quite peeved off about it.  I also realised some time after I could easily return the unit that it wouldn't let you tune into anything except Freeview.  I don't agree with the comments that it is obvious because it is called Freeview, no other unit is locked in this way where you can't unlock it.

I know there isn't really anything I'm misisng out on at the moment, but what if something comes up later, or I decide to get a dish for another satelite.  I gave up on the whole thing, but after reading this post I want to find a soloution one way or another.  But I don't have the original packaging, or possibly even the reciept now.

Re Firmware, obviously it is only going to download the Freeview one, unless you can load a different one another way?  Or can I kick up a stink with DSE?

Yeah I got mine a while back, and obviously don't have teh receipt or all that jazz any more. It's great to see receipts printed on thermal paper that won't last a year. It makes my life more exciting.

Anyways, I just bought a USB Satellite Receiver from TradeMe for $70. It's pretty good, and does sweet things like recording and timeshifting and that jazz.

Do note that if you flash the firmware (and I didn't have any luck finding some), then it might get reflashed when you point it at Freeview? I really wouldn't bother, and get one of the $60 STBs available on TM.
