I'm not quite sure why you would bother with 14:9 zoom, all you end up doing is losing the top and bottom of the image.

What is your TV doing that you believe isn't working properly?

When I set the 65" Panasonic aspect ratio to either 16:9 or Justified, Sky channels 1-7 are correctly presented. But 8 through to 111 or whatever number Sky video finishes at, are stretched horizontally. The Living Channel 8 is the most pronounced with an exaggerated wide angle effect on 25% of the edges... other channels less so. This may be an exclusive Panasonic workaround, I don't really know.

The HD channels default to the correct ratios, but all 8 onwards are stretched - badly. To correct them I go to 4:3, or if I want more screen real estate I go to 14:9 or Zoom 1. Yes, I lose image, but it's better than any distortion, which I can't abide.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to have the TV on 16:9 permanently and have the MySky HDi set to pillar box the 4:3 channels itself. Certainly what I would do and what most people do.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I'm a bit stumped here as to what you are doing wrong. I got a new Panasonic TV for my mum on Friday and have no such issues.

All Sky channels are now fulltime 16:9 broadcasts even if the content is only 4:3 - Sky pillarbox the content themselves and transmit the channel inside a 16:9 frame. Assuming you have the STB set to 16:9 output and the TV set to 16:9 I don't know what can possibly be causing the issue you're having.

Setting the TV to 4:3, zoom or anything else will cause issues - it should simply be a matter of setting at as 16:9 and leaving it at that.

I thought the MySky HDi did the formatting of 4:3. Certainly the standard decoders (excluding TCL decoders) do not format 4:3 at all and the 4:3 channels are definitely NOT in 16:9 frames - I returned my set top box in August so can't recheck but this at least was the case.

AHA! I've just reset Sky to Pillarbox and now am getting distortion-free video on the 65". Thanks for pointing that out - I don't know how I missed it.

Problem then comes with channels that show things that are 16:9 letterboxed - does discovery still do that for all the good shows?
