ajw: I have just spoken to the team leader at freeview about this problem. He assured me that this problem was being caused by TVNZ doing some upgrades to equipment and should disapear within a month.

Just repeating what I was told.

I'll believe it when i see it, after all its already been over a month (How long does it take a large company like TVNZ to test a satellite feed) & there is still the issue of TV3/C4 Dropping it's bitrates so they can run TV3+1 (that looks like its a permanent change)

Rather than do a negative moan why don't you ring Freeview yourself on
0800 373384 and ask for Steve the team leader.

I have deleted TV1 and TV2 from my STB, and have added Sky's TV1 and TV2 channels. No pixelation so far. :)

Sky are probably switching to the TVNZ feeds in just over a week, so you'll probably need to change back then

I was actually the person you spoke to in regards to this particular problem. What you told me was that it was doing it when raining and not so bad when it was fine, so from that information it sounded like you were getting the ever popular rainfade

Sorry DTVS I think we've got our wires crossed. When I called you about the problem you asked me if it was raining to which I replied that it was. You then explained rain fade and suggested that it could be the problem. At that stage I hadn't had the box more than a few days and it had been raining almost the entire time. Now I've had the box about the week, and while it has been a wet week the problems are occuring all the time - reguardless if it's heavy or light rain, overcast or even blue sky.

The reason I asked this forum about the bit rate problem is that on the phone you said that TVNZ changing the bit rate of the broadcast shouldn't have any effect on the image quality, however this forum had several posts on the issue which disagreed with you so I wanted more information. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion - especially when you're like me and a complete novice Tongue out

I am probably gonna keep my STB tuned into Sky's broadcast of TV1/2 for now.

Just had this update

-------

TVNZ is making technical changes to the transmission of its satellite channels early tomorrow morning (Wednesday) to allow for the regionalisation of TV ONE. Viewers who have a Freeview approved digital receiver should not need to make any adjustments. Some non-approved receivers may require a rescan ? if necessary please contact your vendor or distributor for information on how to do this.

Interesting. When this is rolled out, how will the STB's know which region one is in?

With the official freeview DTH STBs you tell it your region on setup. From this you will be allocated the appropriate regional feed of TV One.

Likewise Sky knows from your subscription and will allocate accordingly based on your smart card.

For non-freeview STBs you will have to set it up manually.

Great so we are probably stuck with a crappy pixelated signal through freeview, hopefully the Sky TVNZ FTA feed doesn't change (certainly better than freeview's feed but no where near as good as freeview used to be).
Why they can't just do their "regionalisation" on the DTT feeds and leave the DVB-S alone, Freeview's TVNZ satellite feeds were quite good until they started "testing".
There just doesn't seem to be enough satellite bandwidth for all these duplicate feeds and its not necessary now that that they have the terrestrial digital going.

Same goes for Mediaworks, TV3 & C4 were good untill they started TV3+1 and slashed the bitrates.

Please complain to TVNZ, Mediaworks and freeview.

No complaints = no changes.

If possible get some samples together to show the issue.

Sky are expected to cease the FTA TVNZ transmissions early June.

I've just lodged a complaint to freeview via email.
I intend to call as well.
