Downloaded Media Portal and left it to install overnight. Seems a pretty slick operation! Now I need to get it up and running - possibly a weekend project.
I still haven't seen any satellite TV on screen - Win TV picked up all the channels but crashed with nasty messages whenever it tried to play TV. Hopefully Media Portal is easier to fault diagnose. The documentation looked pretty good online - which is a hopeful sign :P
I've got WinTV up and running with the satellite settings indicated above. MediaPortal and PowerCinema refuse to run. I will try them again when I upgrade my machine - at the moment I'm on XP with a 2.6GHz Pentium (3 I think).
I will have a brief shout out to Hauppage, though: You Suck. The remote control only works when the plug is plugged all the way into the female connection at the back. The male is stopped from plugging fully by the location of the plug adjacent to the casing. Hauppage have come up with a physical workaround by having a notch cut out of the side of the male plug. Yes, it is very subtle. No, it is not written down anywhere on the physical documentation supplied, nor is it easily available on their website (I couldn't find it).
So, if your remote control doesn't appear to work with Hauppage PCI cards, try checking your male connector. The workaround doesn't bother me, it's the lack of information associated with the workaround!

I would recommend trying GB PVR before mediaportal (mediaportal is great - but it is now quite bloated and runs like a slug on older pc's & video cards) GB PVR is very similar (does most of the things that mediaportal does) but from my experience is a lot easier to setup and run on a older pc than mediaportal (much smaller install too)
