rugrat: I couldn't see series link as 1 of the features.

It had repeat recording for same time, every day/week. I had a lot of programs watched lately time start time change by 5 to 10 minutes from week to week, normally the later at night programs - repeat recording wouldn't cover this, eg smallvile 11.25pm last Friday, this Friday coming 11.30pm

Other then that it looks good.

Yes supplier says is in the last processes of Freeview approval, has Mheg-5 and all the options Freeview requires like series linking.

Also did you note that it is 1080p!!!! The only Freeview box with it!!!

I like the remote, looks great.

Yeah the remote looks good. Backlit as well which I believe is a first for a Freeview box.

But you won't be seeing any broadcasts in 1080p

emailed MagicTV in Korea re HDD file format - either FAT32 (hopless) or EXT2 (linux) , so if you're wanting to access the HDD from windows you'll need to use say an 'installable file system 'driver from http://www.fs-driver.org
I'll wait untill someone in this forum does a review of the product. MHEG5 support would be nice.
No BD writer like the panny though.

I just had a look through the manual on their HK site. This looks like an awesome product. Laughing

Ha totally agree wiredr!
Not sure what the deal is, like are we supposed to specifically ask "what's it like now it's out of the cardboard?"

Main beef I've got with the PVR's is the tradeoff you get with the freeview approval process. To get any proper EPG you have to go freeview approved, but that way you get the limited functionality that goes with it. ie can't transfer off recorded programs/disabled ethernet ports for comms to the unit. Overseas it's extended to no ad skip +1 minute leap function and reduced max fast forward speeds etc as well.

i have a magictv3600td arrived a few days ago. here is MY TWO CENTS WORTH .
as a tuner goes it is very polished and user friendly, very snppy on screen graphics . there has not been a single instance of pixelization or drop out , not like the (ET ).
the pvr side of things is very competent but severely hobbled by the freeview requirements .
1, no way to transfer to ext hdd or usb,or play from ext hdd or usb
2, network connection limited to preset ip addresses,
3, skip interval set at 10mins
4, fast forward max 32X
5, no slow forward or back
6. no otr button
7. cant rename chanells or stored programms
8, will record two at once and watch a third, or play recorded prog
9 . no buttons on unit control is completly by remote control
10. epg loads quite quickly and changes chanell with reasonable speed but still not as fast as eit epg machines
11. the superior magictv on screen menu grafics make the freeview epg look old fashioned . definetly not atractive on a high res screen

very reliable BASIC pvr . has plenty of potential just depends on whether the supplier upgrades the firmware or not .

will however

wow almost a year now and what has changed with the Magic.

there have been three upgrades to fix bugs but no changes to the way we use the machine

but now we have a beta upgrade 3.13b2( dont use b3 it has rewind issues )

there is now the very useful skip forward 10mins and skip back 6mins , diff being 4 mins almost  the exact length of prime time adverts . i must say i am really enjoying editing out the ad breaks. a couple of minutes and bingo all the adds are gone .
we were told that the skip function was hobbled to gain free view approval so the question is will the beta become an official release ? if it does what could freeview do about it and if this has happened maybe other non freeview functions will be turned on .
i also noticed that the play pause play pause meant you could slow forward at about half speed .
