ilovemusic: How do can I tell if my Draco 6300 is an early one or not ?

So far it's been working fine with superb picture and sound (better than the Zinwell 620 and the hyped MagicTV).

if it's working fine i wouldn't be too worried, from what i was told if the power supply is faulty it goes fairly quickly. mine went after 4 months. when the power supply went on my hdtv5500 it had been making a high pitched squeeling noise for a few days previous.

I am not going to do that.
I am going to try again and give (in the first instance) the on-line retailer another chance. This time I will write a stronger e-mail and then see what happens.

As long as what you are saying is true, there is nothing wrong with telling us who the retailer is. It is also helping people, beuase it prevents other people being caught out by that retailer. The fact that they haven't had the courtesy to reply probably tells it all. You are being fobbed off, and they are hoping you will disappear under a rock.

They admit they sold them so they are liable. Whether or not they were paid is irrelevant.

That is interesting. I think they would need to prove that the exact item you purchased wasn't paid for, and even then, I don't think they can get away with that. It is the suppliers responsibility to make sure that they get payment for any goods from their agents, and any payment issues should be solely between themsleves and there agent . Infact I don't think they are even permitted to disclose that their agent didn't pay them, as surely that would breach the privacy act. No, you are being fobbed off too.

According to the ministry of consumer affairs:

When you buy goods, the trader should be able to pass all the ownership rights or title in the goods to you. The trader must tell you when someone else has rights over the goods.

You have the right to expect that no one will have any right or claim to the goods you buy except when they are on hire purchase and are legally repossessed by the retailer or finance company.

Where the goods are not on hire purchase they can only be repossessed if, before you bought the goods:

you were told about the possibility of repossession, and

you were given a copy, or relevant part of the document telling you about repossession.

eg, if you order a carpet and pay a deposit, the order form might say the trader can take the carpet back if the rest of the money is not paid within a month. The trader must tell you about this when you order the carpet and give you a copy of the relevant part of the order form.

Yeah, that is what I thought. That supplier also needs a kick up the pants. It is amzing that these retails and suppliers don't know the laws that they trade within.

My Draco 6300 has just given up too after about 18 months of use. As with many of the others mentioned. I am also on my second power supply.

I have tried to contact DBNZ who I bought it off but have now discovered from this forum that they have gone bust.

Has anyone had any luck getting their decoder repaired or replaced? I do agree that 18 months of service is pathertic but I am guessing from other comments that this model is not known for its reliability.

I'll keep an eye on this forum and see if anyone else has any luck from Draco.

the advice i got from the citizens advice bureau was that the distributor should still be liable for repairs even though dbnz has gone out of business and owed them money and that 18 months was not a reasonable period of time for a freeview box to work. i told this to the nz distributor but they were adamant that they wouldn't cover it as dbnz owed them money and i'd have to pay to have it repaired. it got to the point where my next move would have been to take them to the disputes tribunal, but i weighted up the cost in time and effort and decided it wasn't worth it. all i would say to anybody on here is don't buy any products that this supplier distributes as they don't stand behind their products.

Definitely name that distributor. Any distributor that shifty should be avoided at all costs - they are breaking the law by not providing service and I strongly encourage you to warn others about their behaviour.

it wasn't the monetary cost but the time which i can't afford at the moment for various reasons. the draco had been relegated to the tv in the spare room and was only used once or twice a week so i felt it didn't ultimately justify my time to pursue this matter any further.

Can someone tell me who the NZ importer/distributor is.

For what it's worth, I'll contact them this week and see if they are prepared to stand behind this product no matter who sold it.

If not, then lets shame them as vigorously as possible so that noone else goes through the same hassle as us.

not sure how geekzone feel about naming and shaming companies. however, if you go to freeviews website www.freeviewtv.co.nz the distributors details are on there.
