I've got mysky, it records all the repeats of doctor who's and sgu on Prime. It's not a fault of your magic freeview box, it's because the idiot programmers give them the same series link codes. Yes people say you can delete them off, but that doesn't help if you're short of space or get conflict in recording if to many tuners in use. The reason I use the word idiot is because what's the advantage of recording same program twice. Dexter on the box sky channel did it until near end of series someone got their act together. All the programs on TVNZ 6 or 7 I've series link have done it as well and some have 2 repeats on during week, so I gave up on those.

cb1, presumably as you are posting in this post on the maigictv that you have a magictv pvr .
your reply also confirms that this is not a problem with Prime only.
i also go back on what i said about sky because i just found a duplicate of dr who .

I don't have a magic PVR. The problem is in the coded info in the signal, you'll find all devices that get on air epg recording the repeats. This includes magic PVR so my post is on topic.

wiredr: as i said in a prev post repeats on tv3 and c4 don't happen but definitley are a problem on prime .

example , dr who on Sunday ,
set series link and a [s] comes up on the thurs nite repeat. delete the series link on thurs and the series link on Sunday is also removed .

I would say this is expected behaviour. They are not different series, so why would they be treated that way? Does your PVR actually record both episodes? What would you expect to have happen?

The advantage of working this way is that if something happens and the first recording is missed the repeat is automatically recorded. My PVR (JCMatthew) skips the repeat recording under certain circumstances (usually if it's the same as the episode just recorded, i.e. if the repeat is within the 8 day EPG). If the repeat is a week or so later, then probably that would get recorded.

I just don't see how this is that big a deal? Personally, I like it how it is, so if they change it I would then feel like it was "broken". Who's right?

Personally I think it shows Freeveiw needs to put the episode name or episode number in the EPG together with the series link like they do overseas.
That way the better programmed DVR's can record all the episodes in a series without the repeats and picking up any missing episodes from the rebroadcasts.

But I sure doubt they would do that. Make the viewers suffer more adds instead.

I don't see why this couldn't be done now? As far as I know each episode gets a unique ID, so it would be possible to do what you suggest. I just don't think it's necessarily the best solution. How long should the PVR remember which episodes you've recorded for?

Most solutions will record all the unique episodes in a programs in a season
ie a "season pass"
some will do a whole series eg GBpvr with a complete EPG as in the US etc

The problem is free view (NZ) has chosen not to broadcast a full EPG as is done oversea, even on their MHEG5 offering, let alone the DVB standard EIT
It would take little extra bandwith to add this EPG episode detail given how much MHEG5 hogs

you can infer the reasons from the other threads on geekzone why they have done this.
cost, control of EPG IP, competing broadcaster backed products - Tivo NZ, etc
