Try 128gig partitions and see what it does.. Once its formatted all you have to do is plug it in and it should recognise it. No bootup needed.. I had to select which partition I wanted to use in the PVR then it was fine.
ok- I made up 8 partitions so they are only 113 gb each ( + one slightly too large remainder I will carve up more accurately once it is working) Still same error messages- I will leave it on for a while just in case it needs to sort out some kind of link through the USB. sigh thanks again.
Just thought of something. When you created the partitions, you didn't make them bootable or primary partitions did you ? They should be just straight extended partitions.
The HDD has its own power supply but yest- the partitions I think are primary partitions. I will see if I can use that program of yours to create extended ones. (wow- I have been promoted up to geek status instead of wanna be by being completely lost- lol)
The Tokiwa formats a single partition as fat32 at a time. You can tell it to format one partition partially - which creates other drive letters with the remainder. If I use windows component services I can create only primary drives (up to three) then it will makes up to another 4 logical drives. I look up how to created extended drives in windows 7 and currently nothing turns up. So I think this is all that is stopping it from working- I can carve up the drive with windows- but it creates primary partitions only-I think I need to create one stand alone extended drive I can then format it onto chunks using your simple program. ( Or maybe I need to create all 8 extended partitions then try formating each in turn- but your program seems to only format the last (or first maybe) partition.
yeah, i meant logical drives sorry, but you have already created them and it doesn't recognise them once formatted you said.
Running out of ideas sorry, perhaps the drive just isn't compatible. The one that I have plugged in is a 500gig external seagate drive. Did you try formatting and plugging in a small memory stick just to make sure there isn't an error with the PVR..
Sorry to hear you have run out of ideas- I really appreciated your help. I did try a memory stick initially and it worked fine. I can try playing about with the windows service manager and see if I can create only logical drives. I have just finished rebuilding my computer as the last playing around lost my bootmanager. ( so I have certainly learned quite a bit on this exercise) Maybe I will just buy a big memory stick and then ferry them onto the hard drive when it gets full. Not perfect but I can't keep going around buying and returning hard drives that the PVR company says are compatible. Anyhow- thanks so much for your time
For the DishTV SNT7070 Satellite & UHF Freeview Receiver trying to use a 1TB drive I found after much trying of formats and size of partition if I formatted the drive as a Master Boot Record MBR FAT32 then the freeview box could see the drive no matter the partition size and was able to use the full drive size. hope that helps anyone as the rest of this topic helped me.
