Thats a job for WINZ as apparantly a TV is essential, and you can already get a grant for one.

I really hope those WINZ grants are restricted to buying one of the vast numbers of CRT televisions that are selling second hand for peanuts ;)

Nope, 32" LCD is fine. Friend got one as he was dead broke and his monitor blew up. They wouldnt help with a cheaper monitor, but a TV was sweet as.

My understanding is that Kordia wants to hold up the switch-over until the current analog licences expire. Something to do with them needing to recoup costs... or something monetary anyway. Is this true, and if so could someone explain this in more detail (or point me to some resources that explain the situation)?

As far as quality of Freeview satellite goes: I concur with the opinions that have already been voiced. It is better than analog, but it could be better. It is my understanding that Sky only plan to use Optus D3 if Optus D1 falls out of the sky (no pun intended) or fails. However what is to stop them transferring some of their service over to make more room for Freeview? Obviously that makes no sense from a business perspective as I'm sure they'd rather squash Freeview than give them the chance to expand and grow. Technically speaking though, would that be possible?

I have never seen music videos on analog break up into a mess of giant pixels like I see on C4 on satilite.

They cant transfer some stuff to D3 without replacing almost every install with multiswitches and more cabling. Perhaps they could hurry up and end their mpeg2 service if they were to give away more HDI's and get a cheaper box with no PVR in it that can use it? That would free heaps up, but its in skys interest to prevent others getting the space, and they have a lease on it.

I thought at least the newer Sky LNBs were dual-in-package with a built in DiSEqC/22kHz switch and one output. I know the latest ones have more than one output (is it four???) so I'm not sure how they work. In any case, would they really have to throw in multiswitches!?! Seems ludicrous. Maybe what you're saying is that they couldn't watch/record channels from both satellites at once without a multiswitch and [at least] a dual output LNB?

Correct, cant use both sats at once without a multiswitch.

Already are putting in the 2 cables for home installs, but no commercial ones have anything to see D3 that I have seen. Who's gonna pay for that?
