Dingbatt: And here's a few they can include in the shift from 3 to 4...

Top Model (from anywhere in the world)
Survivor (from anywhere in the world)
Project Runway
X-Factor, Idol, ____'s got talent
Outrageous Fortune (but only since Robyn Malcolm contributed to wrecking our film industry)
Any competitive cooking or dancing shows

hope they will play old shows shows tv3 used to play like still standing, yes dear, everybody loves raymond, the bernie mac show, 7th heaven, that 70's show, reba, be cool if they played kids shows in the morning like Arthur

i know there are other comedy's tv3 used to play i just cant think at the moment if you know any others please tell me thanks

Yep - great link, thanks for sharing.

Hmm, that is a damn shame that they aren't taking the opportunity to move FOUR to HD. I realise it is more expensive, but with a number of new viewers turning to it for their Simpsons fix, they really should consider it.

If Four is not going to be in HD, then they may as well not bother to "relaunch" it. HD shows have large viewer appeal. Going to SD from HD is like going from watching a DVD to watching a VHS tape. Take xtra factor as an example. The picture is discusting aftyer watching X-factor on TV3 then switching over to C4 to watch the rest. TV 3 have in the past ALWAYS lead the way being the first with stereo sound years ago and then HD more recently. It seems to me that FOUR is going to be a backwards move especially now that ALL new TV's are HD.

that's what you get with the money grabbers that currently own TV3

TV3s previous owners have had media backgrounds but the current owners are simply an investment firm seeking to make a profit. They do not have any media background at all that I am aware of.

If both TV One and TV2 can do HD (albeit only with inferior HE-AAC.... grrrrr), I don't see why Mediaworks can't do both TV3 and FOUR in HD.
If it means getting rid of TV3 plus 1 to free up some bandwidth, then so be it. Even though I have used TV3 plus 1 on occasion, IMO it really isn't useful enough to warrant being there. Let's put it this way, I probably wouldn't miss it if it was gone.

I actively seek out any programmes that are in HD, and rarely watch anything that isn't in HD. I know that might sound stupid, but I find I just can't watch SD any more. HD really does add that special something.

They are contractually obliged to have the 2 additional digital only channels, 3plus1 and c42 were the cheapest way they could satisfy the contract.

Since they obtained the rights on a bunch of promises (new dedicated sports channel, as quoted directly from Shaun Summerliarwhateveryoucallhim, promised extra live coverage), its been all downhill.

I didn't think they could get any worse until they dropped the podium of Bathurst this year in order to show rerurns of the Simpsons. They have also failed to respond to thousand (yes thousand) of angry viewers on their own forums, they started off responding, but must have got tired of people hauling them up and quoting their own lies.

The sooner the rights either go back to TVNZ or Sky the better. They don't deserve to have them, they are simply to ignorant and arrogant to care about the sports fans.

Agree completely with you there, nothing was more frustrating than getting to the last 25 laps, then TV3 throws in a 15 minute news bulletin (with a blimming ad break too!!). HEaven forbid we could delay the news by 40 inutes or so till the race finished, I'm sure tV3 has done that with other events.

Hopefully they lose the rights and a network with half a brain will get coverage instead.

Bit harsh criticism of bathhurst on 3!

You know why the podium was cut off...? CH7 Australia was delaying the end of the race- yes, the Aussies didn't see the race live!!! They delayed presentation to the winners so that the coverage could catch up with live.

I had CH7 going at the same time as TV3 at home. TV3 was live, CH7 was delayed. Every ad break TV3 played was identical to CH7's breaks. There was no more race coverage that could be shown. I was looking for it!

You know if it was on Sky that they would put ads on while you would be paying for it. Too little live sport on FTA in my opinion to moan about something that's free!

I would guess that the cost of doing Dolby 5.1 on TV3 would be equal to the cost of upgrading C4 to HD. I'm glad to have at least one channel doing 5.1.

Be funny if C4 went HD 5.1 before TV1 and 2 went 5.1 eh?

The new owners and technical management probably see no advantage in going HD.

If they don't want to cut the bandwidth off the other channels to give to C4, they'd be wise to broadcast in 576p50. Some flat panel televisions are so bad at deinterlacing 1080i that 576p would look no worse.

richms: Illogical numbering and naming of channels is rife in NZ, TVNZ call theirs 6 and 7 when they only have 4 channels, and they are only 6 and 7 on freeview. IMO they should have given them tvnz 3 and tvnz 4,

Mediaworks should take the oppertunity to rename both of theirs away from 3 and four since they only have 2 channels, and to launch with it called tv3 was dumb IMO.

You have to remember that when freeview started TVNZ 6 and 7 were only on freeview and were channels 6 and 7. Makes sense really. I guess TVNZ could have insisted that Sky put the channels on position 6 and 7 on the Sky platform...

Why would TV3 be a "dumb" name for the 3rd TV channel given a licence in NZ? Yeah, back in '89 they should have called it "NBC 1" as it was part owned by NBC America. Good one! PS: it's button 3 on every platform to date, so naming it "TV3" is obviously a "dumb" choice.

Yes, tv3 made sense when there was only analog, and everyone would be "tuning it in" on the 3 position of their TV, since tvs for the 10-15 years prior to launch had all supported tuning of numbers rather than a rotary selector with channel numbers on it, but really the idea of a number being your brand is not relevent now that the internet, and multiple broadcasters are taking the channels. BBC, ITV etc have it right, just calling a channel dave is nice and simple, so renaming it to four, when they dont have that as the number on sky is pretty strange IMO.

Gotta agree with you on "four" and Sky channel numbering. But what channel number is TV3 on the internet? Where is TV3 not on button 3 in NZ? So why is "TV3" such a silly name?

Maybe they should call it "orange"?

Way worse in Australia where there is Ch7, 9 and 10. Weren't these their VHF channel locations? And now they have Ch7"2" and 10's new channel is called 1HD and here's another channel called "Mate". WTF are they thinking....

Because it shows a lack of thought with branding.

Its like that ad with the name of bridges etc.

Sky dont brand their sports channels with the number they are on, tv3 should rebrand to mediaworks 1 (and 2 for what was C4) if they cant think of anything better, since they are their first 2 channels.
