IMO All your doing is making yourself look like your advertising for firstgames...

I think I got mine from the UK for half that. Anyway, we'll see what the upgrade (there must be an upgrade, downloadable from PlayTV I guess) does for me in terms of usability. It'll still only be my backup PVR. At least with the RRP being so high, perhaps I can sell mine off and not lose any money on it, mybe even make a couple of bucks.

Nice to see Sony ripping us off over here in NZ, costs less to buy one overseas and get it shipped here.

Oh well the EPG update should finally make this thing useful.

Does the PlayTV software let you specify a drive to record to or are you limited to the internal drive ?
Ive only got a 120gb PS3 so if I bought a PlayTV and record a bit the space soon vanishes........but Ive got a 1TB external drive I use with the PS3.

It records to the internal drive, they are super easy to replace though. I put a 500GB drive in mine when I got PlayTV, takes like 5 minutes (just watch the video guide on youtube!). Some users have issues with the 500GB drives recordings stuttering on playback though, so I would investigate which ones are OK or just install a 320GB drive (mine is a WD one, but no idea whether my good experience with it is representative or not).

You have to initially record directly onto your internal but once recorded you can then move it to the XMB where it can be treated just like any other file could be. However when I last did this some channels would lose their audio, hopefully this is fixed with the latest update.

Yep, the PS3 isn't able to decode the sound, that only happens in PlayTV. I don't think the PlayTV update will fix this, since it doesn't change the PS3 software, and previous PlayTV updates didn't fix this (surely they will fix this sometime though?!). The sound will play when you migrate them to an external drive and playback on your PC. Just be aware that you can only migrate files off if they are less than 4GB in size (Fat32 limitation), so split your recordings for joining on the PC if you plan to keep large ones for posterity.

Yeah the recordings do have the sound in them fine. However the PS3 itself can't play that audio type from the 'videos' section of the main ps3 menu/xmb area.

So if you play them from within the playtv software that's fine.

If you save/export them out from the playtv software to the videos section of the xmb (which deletes them from within playtv from memory), you wont get sound apart from TV3 which has dolby sound which the ps3 can play natively. Hope that makes sense.

If you then copy that file to a disk and play it back on a PC the sound will be with it and the PC will play it ok. Sony need to release a PS3 firmware update that allows the PS3 itself, not playtv, to be able to play that audio file type.

Hmm k, will have to live with the 120 then. Dont do much recording tho so should be alright.

Great news that this is finally available in NZ.

I'm planning on getting one so guess I'll be upgrading the internal storage while I'm at it.
