oxnsox: You've gotta laugh at the wording on the coverage checker. It appears the options for coverage are either 'Likely' or 'Unlikely'.

Now excuse the pedant in me, but the word 'Unlikely' implies that there may be some possibility... in an optimistic way its a word full of hope, and just a little bit of tease. Where in some places its actually very very easy to give a definitive 'No bloody way mate'.

Soo... here I sit in sunny Nelson optimistically wondering if I add a few dozen more elements to a yagi or find a taller telephone pole to mount it on then I just might get some HD before 2013... ok it's unlikely, but........

I think you'll find that the chances of HD in Nelson are pretty much 100%. The coverage map on the freeview website has it pretty much covered here: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/images/uploads/pdfs/Nelson.pdf

Both Kaka Hill and Mt Campbell covered by September... lucky you!!

CYaBro: Does anyone know if Parahaki is going to be the only transmitter in Whangarei?
What about those that use Horakaka or Hikurangi?
Will they have to wait until 2013?

Parahaki will be the only site with DTT in Northland. At least it covers most of Whangarei city. If you can't receive that, you'll need satellite by 2013.

Bugger! Oh well at least I won't have to upgrade my tuner cards or htpc :-)

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I'm liking freeview HD, it's one of those rare things that actually seems to be done right. Sky should probably be a teeny bit nervous. With the economy and people cutting expenses freeview is a nobrainer.

Its not competition for Sky

Freeview is just a replacement/upgrade for the VHF/UHF aerial system.

+1

I wish they'd stop that comparison as they have totally different content.  I've heard way too many people going "I'd get freeview but there's just not enough on it".  It shouldn't be a flippen company, it should just be the next platform.  I would have thought turning off the analogue system would have been motivation enough for most people to migrate.  Spend the money on an information campaign instead of a competitive assault against sky.... sorry, end rant.

No need for a campaign, just take it to a proper 16:9 letterbox and put a constant ticker on it like trackside has about getting switched off. Then switch it off on the day you said it would be switched off.

The freeview ads in the current campaign are complete arse, waste of money things. If someone doesnt know about it already, they are unlikly to get any useful education from a 30 second spot to know any more.

Has anyone else noticed that the location of Kaka Hill on the Nelson.pdf isnt actually Kaka Hill, its closer to Botanical Hill. Kaka Hill is 2Km further east.
Weird.

Horokaka had channels allocated. Guess it fell off the list..

Anyone in AKL noticed that there are 5 new test channels running 25, 40 ~43 from Skytower. They are shared between Shine TV and Arirang a Korean channel though who has what varies from day to day. I believe these are test channels..
