I think you will find the overall picture quality will be better on TV3, MediaWorks seem to put a bit more effort into the technical side of things...lets face it who was the first to go Nicam Stereo, who was the first to go 16:9 wide screen who was the first to go AC3 and HD!!

TVNZ had NICAM stereo on CH2 in Auckland(1989) before TV3 launched.TV3 had NICAM at all transmitters at launch. It took TVNZ a long time to expand the service ( I think Wellington had NICAM but not real stereo sound for some time).

wilt64: Hey silly question but can anyone confirm will the royal wedding televised next Friday be in HD? I see both TVNZ and TV3 are running live coverage but neither broadcaster have announced if it will be in HD. I have also heard rumours the BBC's coverage in the UK is going to be in 3D!!!

Just a note about the 3D rumour. There will be no 3D coverage of the event.

And who uses composite out from a Sky decoder?? Quite often doing direct comparisons on identical feeds finds the sharpest images on TV1. I'm thinking now of the Christchurch Earthquake event. Don't get me wrong, I think TV3 HD playout is excellent and favour TV3 in that respect.

I was wrong on this, there is no "pool" coverage. Both ITV and BBC have separate trucks covering the whole thing, (although they're sharing a few cameras). All being shot in HD and should look amazing. ITV have 47 main cameras on it!

Yes should look amazing......but WILL it be in HD in New Zealand?? Does not look like it will be.

The Mirror article is incorrect. ITV have a 16 camera "scanner" (english tech speak for OB truck) at Westminster Abbey and are covering this themselves.

So are you saying that ITV are also covering the actual wedding service inside the Abbey with their cameras
along side the BBC ?

Yes TV1was a little bit sharper on sky "HD" than TV3. Sad, but NZ TV has obviously no money for Live HD coverage

Working fine for me... But seriously, came here to check how it is streaming... There's no way to compare the crappy quality (720p? Really?) with TV One on Freeview|HD...

The picture quality on TV One tonight was pretty awesome so I'd be very surprised if they weren't using an HD source. At the very least it was a very high bitrate SD source converted to H.264.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
