UltraPower: Customer has the option to purchase the HDD in any store however, has to go back to this store if it has any fault . If purchased through our agents and something went wrong , customer needs to send the whole thing for checking to our agent and that could explain the higher price comapring to retail shops.

No it really doesn't explain or justify a higher price at all.

Doesn't really sound like a free service if you're paying a "higher price comapring to retail shops".

Fact are there are lots of variations between hard drives, even between models of the same company, but with different batches etc over time. Some PVR units are more picky about what drives they work with and really your only option is to try a lot or pay more for one from a shop that's done all that hard work for you in advance.

I undestand your concern however I have seen top model as Topfied and Kaon are also recmmending and prefer some HDD's more than the others (please check in their Web-site it i written which models ). It is imposible to have all HDD's working with the same device . Please note as example UltraPlus has the functions to let the HDD sleep after 10min if not used and also start the timer in time fo recording. These functions need the HDD to be compatible and durig the format the receiver will write those files into the HDD . Feel free to buy the HDD anywhere you want .Cheers

I am wondering if a few of these PVRs require USB HDD's < 1TB? I have tried two different model WD 1TB drives. Both tend to lock up during timeshift on the Hyundai, but will eventually recover. One seems faster than the other, but both are problematic. The faster one seems to drop frames at times. Was thinking of trying a 500MB Seagate instead. Has anyone try 500GB Seagate's 2.5" or 3.5" on these PVRs? Thanks.

My PVR now seems to be working much better after I changed the firmware to the v1.08.87 after some helpful advice from the Tech Support and although I am still using the Seagate 1TB which is not a recommended HDD I am staying with it until I buy the Nexstar CX 2.5 USB2 500GB sata the one that is recommend for my PVR, I can see a real advantage to have a USB2 powered disc drive as the stand by wattage for the UltraPlus is only 1 watt.

I just checked the powersupply on my WD Elements that I was thinking of installing and even without the WD attached it is drawing 5 watts, this is not much but it's another item taking $10 per year before it does anything.

The Seagate HDD which is not recommeded as it will not always go sleep after 10min if not used and it could run all the time not to metion timeshift culd cause the recording some issues (better you switch timeshift off). WD Elements /my book will go sleep if not used and we never had any issue with these. Cheers

The 2 drives I have are a 1TB WD Elements and 1TB WD MyBook. Will all Seagate drives not sleep, or just some? Any other recommendations besides WD please? Thanks in advance.

All the Seagate HDD's which we tested not sure about the others. Please format the WD Elements using the Hyundai receiver in Linux and not FAT32 . Make sure that the format is completed succesfully . Cheers

Yes you are right about the Seagate not being compatible, it was all working but now has failed to start up, so the fault lies with the HDD not the PVR, will put the WD elements on and format it with the PVR.

Still think I will upgrade to the Nexstar USB powered HDD

Thanks. Already done that. Lock ups are intermittent. I might have to look for another brand of USB HDD. The MyBook 1TB seems to respond faster, but seems to drop frames.

My book essential works as good as the Elements , not aware it is dropping frames after testing the set for 6 month with mentioned HDD's . It could drop some frame sometimes from the timeshift while you are recording and watching other channel however the recording and playback is perfect. Cheers

Not for me. Both lock up at times during timeshift. And then if one waits, video will resume. The 1TB Elements is the older type with rubber bits on the end. The 1TB MyBook does seem to me to be snappier with fast forward etc.

Is there a list of non WD drives that do and don't work with well this unit please? Does HDD size matter i.e. 500GB vs 1TB, etc? Does 2.5" vs 3.5" make any difference? Thanks.
