BraaiGuy: I have managed to record nicely without problems.

However I am only using a smaller drive. 250GB. Maybe its the size of your drive thats causing the problems? Did not even think it was possible to have a 2TB Fat32 drive?

What i found a waste of time though was the media services. Its unable to play many formats of files from the USB. Sometimes it freezes. It recognised my tversity media server, again only could play some of the formats. It did not even play a basic mp3 via the tversity media server.

I suppose $160 gets us what we paid for. I am happy though that it can record to USB, thats all I really wanted.

Gotta remember though that the firmware upgrade to enable recording is only new and will be updated to make more features available to users of this box.

Would you mind telling me what is the brand and model of your hard drive? And is it a 2,5" or 3.5"? I reformatted my WD Elements 2TB to 1TB (i.e. made just 1 partition and format in with FAT32, and leave the other 1TB as free/unuse space), my it still jittered quite a bit.

However, I noticed that it tends to jitter if the recording is close to, or above 4GB in size.

By the way, how long have you been using it now, still no problem?

DaMo73: @AKLWestie I got the Dish TV T1020 as well and I emailed the company soon after getting it as I wanted to know what they recommend on disk size and the info they told me might help you.

They told that I could use a 1Tb hard drive, but said that 500gb would be sufficient and that it should be AC powered.

JimmyH: I would be very interested to know if you can view/transcode the files that it records to the USB hard drive on your PC.

I quite want to do this so I can grab HD material off Freeview, but tried and gave up with the weird format my Visione VE4000 recorded in.

Hey, Sorry for the late reply. Finally got a chance to grab the USB Disk from the kids and give this a go.

Good news, The files record as mpeg video files and can be opened directly in VLC player. Just validated with a wiggles file on my PC. So no need to transcode.
