I am trying to decide whether to get one of these units, and reading the threads with interest. Even if the Zinwell is $398 with twin tuner, I still think I prefer something like the Dish as an option.
I can watch any channel (using the TV's Tuner) while recording any other on the Dish. Given the fairly limited viewing choices on Freeview, the times I would need to record two channels at once are pretty darn limited (and I always have the trusty DVD recorder plugged into the Sky decoder to fall back on).
I like the idea of being able to transfer recorded files onto my home network, where they can be viewed across the network (WD Lives), copied onto my laptop for when I travel, and have the commercials cut and a disk burned if I want to keep something. Plus, using external drives means that storage is essentially uncapped - instead of 500GB, plug in 1,2 or even 3TB if you need to. Provided Dish fixes the issues being discussed, and I can get confirmation that HD material can be viewed if I copy the files to a PC, these advantages more than outweigh having a twin tuner.
Please qualify your statement. I have had a 640 for over two years without any issues. I have also installed around 200 odd 620's & 630's and have had two fail in the last few months. Compare that to another freeview approved receiver I stocked , they have all been returned , some twice
Who imports Zinwell now? Didn't the importer fold? Leaving no service agent in NZ / no firmware updates forthcoming?
I bought a DishTV T1020 from Noelleeming today for $140,- , Harvey got them on sale for $ 144,- took the mailer into Noel and they sold it for $140 to me . Not worth much more than that I think , Unit is not straight i had to bend it a bit before the 4 foots touch the surface . It says MyFreeviewHDsatellite on the unit while it is a terrestrial receiver. Cheap looking menu I think , But for the price/quality i am happy with it

The menu does look cheap... but is yours the current firmware? The older firmware looks somewhat worse than the latest version. Would be worth downloading the latest f/ware and doing an update just to check.

Yes i did update the current fw straight away after took it out of the box
