My major beef with the basic sat boxes out there,and the terrestrial ones for that matter, is they only allow you to record the channel that you are viewing which is why I want a twin tuner. The DishTV one looks like the one I'm going to go for unless anyone can suggest something better for the same $$$

You know, even though I currently can't see me caring too much about this, I just know that when I get my new and shiny single tuner box, there's going to be something that I want to record on the other channel. Oh well, c'est la vie.

And don't forget that even consecutive recordings from different channels can lose significant portions where most EPG recordings, by default, will add lead and lag times to cover broadcasters' timing inaccuracies. Best you check the specs of your intended shiny new box to see that these times are user tweakable per recording event to mitigate this disruption.
nullpainter: Well, against my better judgement and being overly swayed by shiny things, I've just ordered a Vu+ Uno from a UK supplier. Hope to hell it works...!
Please do report on what you find, and if you get stuck, sing out. No guarantees, but if the Uno is anything like the Duo (save in the tuner department), it should be fairly smooth sailing.

I think you will like it and if you have a knowledge of file systems etc then you can have some fun trying different images. Theres plenty out there,if not still a good box that does most things,I have a dm8000 which cost an arm and a leg ,can run four tuners and a has a cd reader writer but to tell you the truth if you have two tuners and dont need a cd writer reader the vu duo is just as good and a lot cheaper.

Not quite true , I have a Zinwell single tuner DVB-T Box that you can record two channels ,and watch a third at the same time,as long as they are on the same mux

Yeah it really does come down to the software of the unit.
A single tuner gets every single channel on the transponder/mux. A smart bit of software can record a few and display another from that one stream.
