CPU useage is sitting around 4-20% and some times peaks at 30%

I have tried both VMR7 & VMR9 renders with no diffrence

Hotdognz: Hi guys first post.

I have DVB Viewer installed, PowerDVD Ultra installed and a onboard ATI 1250 chipset that supports h.264, the CPU is a Duel core AMD 4400.

I have just edited my post as I now have all the test vids working in PowerDVD so im guessing my system should be go to go with HD Freeview

But

DVB Viewer will not play any of the HD Freeview channels they are just jerky and skipping frames, I have set the h.264 codec in the directX options to the Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder, what am i missing here.

A 4400 is right on the verge of not being powerful enough to decode the channels in software. The X1250 does not support hardware acceleration of H.264 so it's being decoded by the CPU. If you don't have a video card doing the decoding for you you're really going to need a 4800+ or 5000+ CPU.

Hmmm ok I built this system for Hi-Def content and it plays HD-DVDs through the Xbox HD-DVD connected to the system fine through PowerDVD, the chipset and onboard video says it supports H.264 at ATI web site.

I have a GT8800 in my gameing rig will this be any good for doing the H.264 work.

The X1250 (690G chipset) does support h.264 decoding.

It may "support" it doesn't do a very good job. Because the X1250 has no vertex shader it still relies on the CPU for deblocking which means it's only partly offloading the decoding to the GPU and relying on the CPU for deblocking.

In my testing with both Asus M2A (which I own) and several Gigabyte 690G boards that I have built for people you'll need a 4800+ or 5000+ CPU to get adequate results for TV3's 1080i feed which is the real killer - 720p and 576i content isn't too bad at around 40-50% CPU utilisation but even with 40% CPU utilisition I find the picture on my 8500GT far superior to the same picture from the X1250 onboard on my M2A.

Can someone make a .ts sample of 2min or so? i want to test cpu usage while decoding 1080i and 720p on my P4 3ghz HT, ATI 9600XT. The current ones are a little too short to be able to detect lag. A bit of action would be good.
It appears to run smooth with the short samples though, so i assume it will work fine with DTT Live.

$127 for the HVR3000 at peps pc (hamilton too!) is a steal, possibly will snap that up.

Im going to throw the HVR 400 in my gameing rig and see how it goes tommorow if it all works well ill get a video card for the MCE machine, does anyone have sound suggestions on what to cards to look at.

Hotdognz: theres heaps of information in these forums on suitable graphics card, hunt around!! however as fossie will no doubt mention the 8500gt is a good investement, which is around $100.. for an extra $20 you can get a 8600gt as well..

Actually, if the person that makes the recording has no access to hosting i'll host it on my website, space isnt an issue, i can convince the owner to give me more and ive got plenty free now - however its USA based. If needed PM me and i'll make a temporary FTP account.

Also it would be great if the recording could be of something with a lot of action, the neighbours sample gives very low cpu usage even compared to the indiana jones 576i trailer.

One of each - 720p and 1080i if you can :)

Thanks in advance for time/trouble to whoever takes on the task.

I made those samples when I was having a few problems with my system. I'll make some new longer ones.

As for video cards, i'm using an 8600mgt. Having just installed vista last night, I haven't yet tried Hardware acceleration. (my hvr is still having a few problems, and works occasionally).

exDee, I get the feeling that your system will stutter with fast movements and action scenes etc. Does the batman 720p recording work well for you? It's actual 720p and not upscaled.
