Well finaly got it all working useing the 8500gt and Vista, I completly reformated and started from scratch and only installed the programs I need for DVBViwer to work, im thinking that i may have had too many codec packs installed and the PowerDVD h.264 codec wasnt really being used when I had it selected in DVBViewer.

So this is what i have running in DVBViewer picture and sound (CPU is around 2-5%)

TVOne ACC & AC3
TV2 ACC & AC3
TVNZ6
TVNZ7
TVNZ Sports Extra

I have also listed in the Channel scan

TV3 & C4 but i dont have any picture or sound from both these channels are they working for others ?? (maybe its just today) what could be causeing these not to work any ideas ???

Hi all,

I just for the first time tonight tried to get the Freeview DVB-T feeds on my HTPC. The key parts of hardware I have are:

* Hauppauge HVR-3000
* PX8500GT Video Card with onboard H.264

I'm operating Vista Home Premium, with Power DVD & Ultra installed, and trying to use Dvbviewer to view the Freeview Terrestrial content. I followed Fossie's original instructions (1st post), and my scan picked up 78 channels.

But when I try to view one of the channels via the Channel List (say TV3), it tells me what is on in text, but throws up the following error:

Cannot load Source Filter, error 0x80004003 Invalid pointer

The channel names are correct, and the EPG appears to be working and accurate. What have I done wrong??

I had lots of simlar error msgs on my machine Satch, do you have onboard grapihics on your M/B and did you ever have drivers installed for them, The only way I have been able to get a picture in DVBviewer was to start with complete clean install of Vista on my HTPC then and in this order

Installed latest 8500GT drivers (169.XXX) reboot
Install PowerDVD Ultra and make sure make sure use hardwear was ticked
Install DVB-T card (PVR4000)
Install DVBViewer

I made sure that PowerDVD could play lots of the diffrent samples fossie had put up for testing on the first page then started DVBViewer and did a scan and set it up as Fossie suggests on the front page, make sure you also set Vista Enhanced Video Renderer (experimental) up under the render option on the same page you set DVBViewer to use the powerDVD H.264 driver.

That did it for me but I have found DVBViewer to be very unstable and just 20mins ago it stopped showing pictures again and I have no sound again.

Over at the DVBViewer forums that have tool to get info on your system so you can post a msg there for help and include a log file so they can see whats happening, I would suggest trying that too.

Has anyone else been having terrible Lag with EVR in full screen? Mainly on the 720p feeds.

I have done some minor edits to the main post. I'm planning on revamping the whole guide in the next week.

Hi There,

Athlon 64 3700+
1GB TwinMOS RAM
Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI
Gigabyte 7600GS 256 Heat Pipe Addition [1]
Hauppauge HVR-3000
Dual Boot Windows Vista Home Premium & Windows XP
SONY Bravia 42" LCD

and have Channels TV1/2/3/C4/6/7/Sport Extra running in Tauranga under Vista (where are the rest gone?). I have PowerDVD 7 Ultra and DVBViewer installed and seeing the channels ok... tho my CPU is running HIGH under all channels and maxing out on TV3. This was acually pretty painless and setup went as expected.

Gigabyte says that my card supports PureVideo HD so i have EVR turned on and i am seeing the same kind of Lag, tho it is intermittant, you are noting Fosse. Is my GFX card just not up to it?

Should i upgrade the card or the CPU? Or dont i have enought RAM

Note: This unit is using MCE2005 with the DVB-S tuner in the card and works great.

Have you enabled purevideo in powerdvd. And also, is the card AGP or PCI-E.

Yep - enabled purevideo in the PowerDVD prefs, and the card is a PCI-E. A couple of points:

I purchased the latest PowerDVD 7 Ultra, however, when i go to the preferences it still has a "Validate" button (i think thats the word) even tho i validated it with the SN.... I wonder if somehow it thinks its a trial?

Anyway.. The lag is just little bits of the video 'hickuping' every now and again - Which i put down to CPU..?

I will have to wait to get home to see if this happens only in full screen mode.

I tend to suffer lag with a similar setup but only with TV3 and TVNZ6. No idea why - the other channels are all fine.

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

I know that this is slightly OT.. but has anyone got DVBViewer tuned with both the DVB-T and DVB-S channels at once? It would be great to be able to flip between the channels to compare the different in quality.

Note: I tried with what i thought were the correct settings, but no channels found.

If your CPU usage is >15% then for sure your 7600GS is not hardware accelerating the H.264 decoding.

Anything in the NVidia 8xxx or 9xxx series, or ATi 3xxx will be sure to work and lighten the load on your CPU.

This thread is becoming quite large with tons of information. I'm not lazy but having read the thread several times it's still not clear what I need. My scenario

AMD Sempron 64 3000
1G memory
Windows XP SP2

I want to view the DVB-T broadcasts so I have the following

1. Sapphire HD2600XT video card (AGP 8x) - I know sbiddle thinks it's rubbish but it's what I bought
2. Hauppauge HVR-3000

Software

Will use gbpvr (am using it now). Have PowerDVD7 Ultra so I hope the H.264 codec there will enable acceleration in the video card. Do I need a codec for HE-AAC LATM or will gbpvr take care of that

You need to install the Monogram AAC decoder v0.9.3.0. And GB PVR 1.2.9.

I think your experience with the AGP 2600XT will go some way to answering the question of AGP based hardware decoding. Please report your results. Expect CPU usage <10-15% on the 720p channels, otherwise it's just not working.

Fossie - I think in your rewrite you need to make some mention of the cards that support hardware based H.264 decoding. This is a critical (probably THE critical) issue for setting up to receive DTT. This forum has become littered with a multitude of threads all asking this type of question - it would be nice if we could just direct to this thread/writeup.

Already working on it, Walt. But I do need some info from you guys, such as cards that work and do not work, PCI-E or AGP.
If people could just leave a comment here or PM me saying if their card is or isn't working, it will be very helpful.
