Do you have an older TV or are you now displaying 576 on your Full HD/HD Ready flat panel TV?

If you're having problems displaying higher resolutions on an lcd/plasma TV then you may want to look at a better quality hdmi cable perhaps?

Yeah is a CRT so the good news is MagicTV sends HD signals over component.
In my case a 1080i signal can be recieved by my CRT

I'd be surprised if it did do HD over component. That usually one of the first things to go when a box gets freeview certification.

Is a riduiculous rule anyway because no recorders come with component in to record anyways!

Whoops, sorry!

They're all rediculous rules anyway when people get dodgy copies via the internet, not off set top boxes. And as you say, nothing consumer grade has HD in for copying anyway, certainly not via component input. Heck even copying to DVD means downscaling broadcast HD to DVD SD resolution now anyway.

Don't get me started on limiting EPG data too, which only prevents potential viewers from watching a show because they weren't made aware of it in the first place.....

In case you haven't noticed, a new setting was introduced with firmware 1.12 (I think). The live TV Timeshift Buffer can now be set to Auto (start recording when Pause pressed), On (start recording as soon as live TV started) or Off (Don't start at all I guess). I have this set to ON, as I never know when I might want to go back and see something again. Length of Timeshift Buffer can also be set. Good options, and thanks to MTV for introducing this.

A rewind buffer is great to have even when watching live for when someone just walks into the room and starts talking at you.

Anyone help with a sound issue? Magic TV was working fine but now can't get sound on live tv unless press rewind button. This makes sound work but if change channel then no sound unless rewind pressed which makes logo flash on screen.
I know its probably finger trouble but can't work out what we've done.

Try unplugging the Magic tv from the wall,wait for 30 seconds,then reboot. This usually fixes software issues.

You can jump forwards and backwards, but it's set at 10 minutes (read useless).

Sounds like a very poor review by consumer. I would contact them if I was you.

I have a MagicTV and as Trevor states, the MagicTV can skip forward or backward in only 10 minute intervals. I do not have a Homecast unit so cannot confirm this, but the online Homecast manual states it has 2 modes of skipping forward or backward:

Jump by Percentage in Playback Mode
1. Press a numeric button (0-9) while playing back a recording.
- Press the ‘3’ button to move the play position indicator to a spot which is 30% into the overall file length.
- Press ‘5’ to move the play position indicator to the halfway point (50%) of the file.

Jump by Seconds in Playback Mode
This function is available in Playback and Time Shift mode.
1. You move the play position indicator back or forwards by “x” seconds with a quick press of the buttons.
• At the default 2 hour record time setting, the jumps are approximately 30 seconds.
• In a 90 (to 120) minute recording, the jumps are approximately 25 seconds.
• In a 60 (to 90) minute recording, the jumps are approximately 20 seconds.
• In a 30 (to 60) minute recording, the jumps are approximately 15 seconds.

In other words, the Homecast skips a varying amount depending on the length of the recorded program. The Homecast is Freeview certified and it has variable lenght skip forward or backward. I would like to see a firmware update to the MagicTV that would allow the User to set the number of seconds the skip forward or backward jumps. Say an option to set the time in 10 second increments from 10 seconds, to 10 minutes maybe.

MagicTV is a great unit ...but the >| FFWD skip is the most important feature to me.
If MagicTV could simply just change it from 10 minutes to 4 minutes that would satisfy me.

on fryday i went thru the epg list to check progs to record and found Dr Who on fryday nite with a S next to it .
since i had alraedy watched this episode i thought it strange that the encore epsisode was recording so i deleted the series link .
last nite doing an epg check and low and behold Dr Who was not going to record so i reset to series link.

question is .
is the recording of the encore prog a fault with the media distributers/epg writers or
is this a problem with the Magictv ?
this phenominon does not happen on mysky.

Was it actually recording the show? Encore episodes are sometimes marked with S or R but not actually recorded eg, it is just a reminder that you have already recorded that show.

The entire system for series recording is set by the broadcaster when they enter the info for the program in the EPG. If they enter in the same id as other episodes, then it will record it. If not, then it will ignore/miss it. So most likely it was given the same id as the current series.

Problem

MagicTV reception was great 100% on top bar 80% on bottom.

Moved it into another room temporarily, also good reception.

Now back in it's original location and it can't find any channels. Have tried numerous aerial cables, repositioning MagicTV, repositioning it's power transformer, all other equipment off, still nothing.
Help please!

I noticed the power pack is buzzing on my unit. If you put your ear up against it it sounds like its arcing inside. Has any one else had this problem? Just wondering if Magic will ship me a replacement and after it arrives allow me to return the faulty on back to them as its still working.
Has any one else had to have this replaced? Its just I don't want to return the power pack and have the Magic not operational for a week or so while it gets back to them, they find that it is faulty and then send out the replacement.
Will call them tomorrow and try to sort it out.

The epg for stargate universe does not work properly either. If you series link it you will get both the new series on thursday night and the replay on wednesday night. The problem is the original on thursday night is at 8:30 and the magic records after its finished. Can't remember if it starts recording at 9:30 or 10:30. Its interesting that most of the epg problems seem to be with prime.
