I might be speaking out of turn here, but... Does your home theatre have HDMI in and out? If so, I would suggest running your MTV HDMI *OUT* into one of the HT HDMI *IN* ports and then sending your HT HDMI *OUT* to your tv. That might alleviate most if not all of your delay because your home theatre will be handling both video and audio at the same time.
No. I work in audio but can't afford the good gear for home. Hence I feed the audio from the picture source, therfore I would on as expected a minimal picture delay (milliseconds) whilst the LCD processes the picture.
FYI I haven't noticed prolonged delay on play back, only live TV.

I finally resorted to connecting the MTV drive to my PC, and using a Slax (portable Linux) boot ISO on a pendrive. It's easy for non Linux people (like me) to install extra packages like VLC, which plays nearly all TS files allowing you to seek within the file, and with the audio in sync (KPlayer fails at both). So I can now preview and copy stuff from the JFS partition.
I have made some progress in investigating the Magic TV. I can now telnet in and copy programs off over the network connection. Here's a more detailed description of how I did it: http://2lostkiwis.com/wordpress/mtv3600/

Also out of my league, but was wondering if another aspect to look at might be to look at the difference in the HK and NZ firmwares in the way they are identified - if you could modify the HK firmware to have the NZ identification, you could just load that and have all the HK features.
shouston: I have an issue most mornings that Audio is out of sync with pictures.I have grown used to the milliseconds associated with LCD and Home theatre systems, But overnight or after a long period of time with any activity the sync drifts, I mean up to a second perhaps. A simple toggle of channels, or toggle of the audio settings fixes it. In television we use a word clock to keep audio and pictures in sync. What is Magic TV using?? I have reported this to Magic TV. They suggested its an ongoing issue with Digital TV?? They said just flick to live TV, this makes no difference. Does anyone else have this issue. We are fully up to date with firmware. HDMI out of MTV to LCD Audio Analogue out of the LCD into home theatre, with the option setup to go Spidif directly out of MTV into home Theatre.
Same issue here where TV programmes look like a bad re run of Monkey!! HDMI from MTV to Plasma. had to turn it off last night and use the Freeview tuner on the TV. Damn frustrating !!

Don't have a solution but have you tried turning off the TVs picture enhancing processing? That slows the picture down
Just bought a MagicTV 3600 on the basis that it wasn't Freeview certified but sadly got it wrong. Oh well, maybe next time.
First impressions is it's fast and generally has all the good bits (Obviously not the various non-Freeview features though).
There is a gripe with the user interface though, along with the jerky FFWD/RWD, it is seriously missing slow play and frame advance/retard while paused! That is something I didn't know how much I used before until I tried do it on the MagicTV unit.
So frame stepping is my #1 feature request for future patches.
Just been reading more of this thread and I'd have to disagree with the suggestion that the general public won't buy a product without certification. Saying that certification is important is your typical marketing spin. Joe blogs just wants it to work, certified or not. If certified means it does work then yes that's what Joe would want. But in the case of Freeview it seems that certifying means that it stops working. People aren't that dumb.
Certainly, the salesmen (plural) were keen to tell me how the MagicTV isn't Freeview certified and that meant it's possible to copy recordings.
Being Freeview approved is good enough for me. I can honestly say that apart from the ffwd/frwind quirk,i have never had a problem with the Magic tv. A recorded programme looks stunning when played through a full HD lcd television. Hopefully Pixel Magic will sort out the few niggly things with future firmware upgrades. It has been almost 3 months since the last one,,

Exactly! Freeview approving it did nothing positive. It was already a good unit that has user feedback being listened to by the manufacturer.
