Just to confirm you guys are changing the AP names from a single one to VodafoneXXXX-2G and VodafoneXXX-5G or alike?
As I have found without a segregated AP name it will flick between 2.4 and 5 a lot causing a lot of the issues people describe. 

 

 

Support for seamless transition has come so far, i'd be surprised to see that really.

 

 

 

2.4G and 5G is often set out by providers simply to draw a clear line in the sand on the standards.

Ok, found the problem. For some reason the T2100 wanted me to save my password again even though it was already there. It must have got confused somehow.

While I'm not aware of any home routers with band steering, configuring different AP names actually creates more problems than it solves and is something I highly recommend not doing.

 

Because neither Android nor iOS have any form of heirachy for saved networks you either need to then save both of the networks. You will then find that based on signal strength your phone will always connect to 2.4 by default, and will never change to 5GHz. If you give both the same SSID you will find that when 5GHz is available a phone will typically connect to it as a preference.

You have to assume that it has selected the best possible network.
As said above I understand how the concept of the technology and thats cool but I'm yet to see with my own eyes it working in the real world. I ahd issues with the likes of streaming boxes over WiFi where they would hop mid stream and cause issues or glitches, iPhones deciding to use 5G upstairs and not even working, the list goes on. I connected everything close by to 5G that wasnt moving (media related stuff, cameras) Smartphones were all on 2.4 roaming around the house.

Agreed. However, my comments were directed at support for say, bandwidth issues.
