I have noticed a heap of UHF aerials also being mounted with the "wrong" polarity and all since Freeview started. In Hawke's Bay the polarity has always been vertical but many new subdivisions predominantly have their aerials mounted horizontally by supposed professional installers and seem to make zero difference to their reception from what I've seen. I'm wondering whether digital transmission cares as much about polarity or as we're in a high gain area if the signal blasts through regardless and horizontal is more aesthetic?

The Freeview EPG etc is all working fine (EPG a little slow) but tuning into channels is instant.

Glad you're up and running... in HD! Don't worry about the EPG speed, whatever Freeview device I've used it's always been slow. Could be imagining it but often find if you change channel leave it for a minute before trying to load the EPG.

Would be interested to know as well, I set mine up based on what the freeview site and it was only way I could get all the channels, if I changed it to what my neighbours had I couldn't get TV 3 . In the end I got a professional out and he pointed it to completely different site wainui not Haywards and it works perfectly the way I had it which is completely wrong way compared to neighbours. Mabey they just have sky and don't use freeview?

Hi, polarity is just as important for DVB as Analog, roughly 25-30dB important.

Its probably the fact that DVB-T will work with such a loss (until the cliff) without much evidence of poor reception that its not noticed, but I think we can all agree that such a loss (roughly 500-1000x the signal) is significant, and for the simple act of selecting the correct polarity that its a no brainer.

In the Hutt Translators are V polarity, as Cyril says you will lose around 20dB+ if you get it wrong , but if you have LOS to the Tx you will still be above threshold , and chances are it will work ok.
There are dozens around here incorrectly polarised, I suspect mostly done by DIY types ,as when you take them out of the box the clamp is almost always in the Horizontal position and they will just line it up the way the neighbours are pointing
