Wonderful.  However, our recent (less than a year old) "smart" TV has removed all Freeview and OnDemand apps.  Very, very frustrating.  Especially when Panasonic and Freeview techies can help sort the issue.    Any ideas?

All good on my 2017 Panasonic TV. One push of the green button bought up Freeview on-demand as usual. I assume your internet connection is ok?

I don't get why Freeview/TV3/TVNZ insist on signing up for an account. Given the difficulty of finding NZ content online, I'd actually occasionally watch something on their platform, but the requirement of signing up for an account puts me off. I don't need to be identified in any way to receive FTA transmissions, I see no reason I should need to be identified to watch FTA content online.

Someone else is paying for your privilege to be able to access that content.  With ad-funded television (not your misnomer of FTA) the sampling allows the broadcaster to estimate what type of people (location/age/gender) are watching the content.  As there is no sampling of online ad-funded content the broadcaster is gathering the same sort of data by requiring you to sign up for an account and to login when you access that content.  In fact it allows better granularity to determine whether is economic to acquire similar content in the future.

Those are the terms and conditions of ad-funded television. Not exactly onerous to enable you to watch something that someone else is paying for.  If you dont like the terms and conditions then dont participate.

Ostensibly, the account is needed for tracking watch progress across TVs and to generate recommendations. However, if this was the case, surely those things would be opt in.

If it means I have less ads for female hygiene products and over 50 life insurance, I don't have an objection. Create account with a throw-away address if it is a major issue :)

Screw em, I'll just keep on sourcing all my content from a sailing related Swedish website and ignoring the local content that doesn't end up there.

Good to know that freeloaders that deprive others are themselves deprived.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, but I cant see a way to add any favorite shows like I used to, nor have it take note of what episodes I have already watched? Means I have to scroll through the lists or type in the name of the show with the remote to find my shows....

Dont think you can as its just the freeview program. You would have tojust install kodi and install the tvnz and three addons from matt huisman (which work well).

Somewhat off topic sorry, but in line with the general "On Demand" theme:

Noticed an odd thing while using Apple TV at my son's place to watch TVNZ News On Demand on Saturday night. It plays the entire bulletin (including several minutes of the previous programme), including all ads as originally broadcast. This is completely at odds with the TVNZ On Demand experience on my Samsung TV, or the Android app, where you get an ad at the beginning and then straight into the programme, with a couple ads more at various breaks in the programme.

Anyone know why this is?

It's the difference between a live show (e.g. 1 News, Seven Sharp) and a show that is pre-recorded (Shorty Street, Country Calendar, etc)

Note that One News will transition to proper on demand after a while, I think maybe an hour or two after broadcast. Before it does that, you will get the live version IIRC even via the on demand page.

Same for me. Plus if I search agents of shield, it only finds something like agent of Anna or something like that, but not Agents of Shield.

Yet if I just scroll through the shows, it is there.

Just press green once in applic, and if like mine the original apps will show then back to doing old way with favourites. Though, I think they have plans to remove them in future :(

Edit: I also tried searching Marvels and it didn’t find anything either.
