Did you end up giving MCEbuddy a try at all?

Both MediaCoder and MCEBuddy crash for me with a mencoder error, am I the only one with that problem?

I will try on the weekend on my media center which has less installed stuff, might work better.

I had a similar issue on our system but found out that the (Gigabyte Mobo) M.I.T tweaker was enabled by default in the BIOS - turned it all back to standard/default & it behaved a lot better.

i just try mcebuddy but it gave out .avi file which only have audio..( H.246 high quality , no comskip setting)
what setting did you use?

haloo101: probably xvid...

I use:

audio: LAME MP3 (resample 44100)

video: Format: XviD, container: AVI, mode: quality based, set to 90 (you can vary this depending on what size file you want)

You can use one of the presets via the extensions menu and adjust it to suit if you wish.

It doesn't work well for me for interlaced but I probably haven't got it set up right.

I had a bit of success last night.

Took a TV2 capture I did where I had already converted the AAC audio to AC3 (see previous posting of mine).

Then ran x264 against the .ts file and output a h.264 file half the size

Finally muxed it back with the original AC3 audio and it plays okay. But since the TV2 transmissions are upscaled SD it's not a good test and will try again with TV3 tonight.

Previously x264.exe had hung for me but I got the latest patch build and it seemed to be better

I discovered yesterday that the latest build of SUPER multimedia converter now supports H.264 and HE-AAC audio.
Best of all it is freeware.

I don't think there is a one click solution, current solutions are bloated and maulware or worse.
MediaCoder worked a little but is just does what lchiu7 pointed out with Avisynth. StaxRip didn't work,
AutoGK didn't uninstall didn't work. MCEbuddy, my virus checker id it as trojan - nasty....

lchiu7: example of avisynth script.

1. get hold of x264.exe
2. the avisynth script is something simple like

Directshowsource("name.ts")
converttoyv12()
LanczosResize(1280,720)

Compress the video using x264

3. Demux audio using dgavcindex

4. Mux it back using Tsmuxer

I have avoided using a script solution, but it looks like the only way to manage it.

GB-PVR has a transcoding option, but it doesn't seem to run.

AVIsynth can force the codec's, with AviSource("c:/tv.ts", fourCC="IGOR") But I can't get it to read .ts files.
Even useing Directshowsource("C:/tv.ts") doesn't work.

ummm http://www.erightsoft.com/Superdc.html it's looks as dodgie as the others.

I have given up and will just buy larger HD's

All the solutions I have tried work but I end up with audio/video out of sync, glitchy video and taking 2-3x real time on a dual core machine. And since I am not compressing for Internet access, just for myself, it's not worth my time.

I think the compressed video we see on the web (either the 720p TV shows or, heaven forbid, BR rips) start with better sources. The DVB-T source I get has occasional pixellation in the signal and/or audio glitches. I think the MPEG2 HD transmission the US get are much better quality and/or are coming down via cable so there is very little signal degradation vis a vis OTA. And of course BR rips should be good source material.

Has anybody tried Handbrake lately? According to this http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6046 thread, there is partial support for DVB-T H.264 files.

I took a look at the patches & is above my head (I hate anything that looks like commandline apps). Would be interested to see if it works. If so, maybe someone could do a basic dummies guide. Otherwise, another app consigned to the trash bin

It has the same issue with audio it seems until the ffmpeg patch is added in to support it. Hopefully this won't be too long.
