RustyViewer:

What does this mean? That I can no longer watch TVNZ programs on demand on my Panasonic DMR-HWT260 from June next year? Or will there be an update allowing for both forums of streaming?

Looks like it does, but my Panasonic TV has the TVNZ app.

Oblivian: Thats the subscription model I mentioned

2018. And can't for life of me find it again

I did a Colmar Brunton survey earlier this year (could have been later last year, perhaps?) that was clearly commissioned by TVNZ, and clearly aimed at assessing the interest in and appetite for a two-tier on-demand service. These things clearly take time to gestate and be confirmed...

I don't watch TVNZ, but I like the idea of paying a subscription to get rid of ads. If Three/Discovery were to offer it then I would go for it if the price is right, but honestly it would probably have to be under $10 a month.

You think TVNZ are anticipating that the days of scheduled television are numbered?

More that people like to watch in their own time, and without interruptions.

presumably the content ranges also affect.

they seem to put on exclusive on demand items only and either not during prime time on free-to-air, or it's stupid time slots and delayed

so they have nabbed a portion of the market there for the likes of Grey's anatomy and us sourced dramas

Anyone who hasn't tried Matt Huisman's Kodi addons for NZ TV on demand really should, if you have a Kodi-capable device hooked up to your TV. I find it a much better solution to aggregate all on demand services in one nice UI which also manages to be stable - one thing the TVNZ android app cannot claim. Also no obnoxious branding or login requirements.

Yes, I believe this meams that devices which support Freeview+ only, like the Panasonic DMR will be left without a TVNZ on demand type option.
Though it has an Panasonic app store its old and I doubt TVNZ will bring out a separate app for it at this stage.
I'm in the same situation, and will probably need to buy another STB just for apps like TVNZ On demand. Leaving the DMR for recording live TV only.

Thinking an email to Panasonic or a store selling the DMR maybe needed to know for sure.

I swear for every step legal streaming options in NZ take forward they take 3 steps back.

All I see this doing is inconveniencing the less technically literate and driving the more technically towards less than legal alternatives.
