My HDHomeRun works fine for both DVB-T and DVB-C. DVB-C was tested with GB-PVR on TelstraClear cable. They have no unencrypted channels, but they unencrypt fine for me with GBPVR + multidec plugins and my TCL smartcard in smartcard reader.

Mine wasnt bought from the NZ distributor, but I assume its the same as the model being sold here.

O.k. I've been wrestling with mine for a little while now, and I'm starting to get very frustrated.

I'm trying to convince this thing to stream to something, anything.

I've got OS X, Windows and Linux.

Problems:

1) The beta configuration tool won't install on OSX (there isn't a release version), it takes too long to download software (GTK) from the Silicondust web site - 6kbps! 55minutes! The install times out.
2) I tried to use the beta configuration tool under windows. I wanted to stream to VLC, however there aren't any instructions, just a lot of people saying, "Hey, it works!".
3) I tried to get it to stream to boxee. The configuration tool failed to create channel files for all of the DVB-T channels. It got the Chinese station, but not TV-1.
4) I tried to open one of the strm files in Boxee - didn't work. (not Silicondust's fault)
5) I tried to open XBMC inside a VMWare image - didn't work. (again, not Silicondust's fault, but does explain frustration!)
6) I tried to install it on windows and use the supplied player, except I'm stymied by the 6kbps download speed (Silicondust's fault).
7) I tried EyeTV3. It doesn't want to work in New Zealand - but it does say that it supports HD Homerun.
8) There should have been a playback tool on the install CD. Then I could have figured out if it was working at all!
9) There is no information on the URLs to use to retrieve the channels.

However, the configuration tool, under windows was able to find the tuners, scan for channels and then find the channels.

I just can't find any way to get at the video!

Anyone manage it yet? What did you use?

Windows:

The first thing is to download and install the latest HDHomeRun software release for Windows (20090305a). Amongst other things, this release adds support for previewing NZ channels (H.264 + AAC/LATM) in WMP.

You shoud be getting good download speeds from our main server... I will have someone bounce a test through a NZ proxy.

Playing video using WMP in NZ requires the appropiate codecs which may or may not be already installed on your system. Please let me know if you don't hear audio or don't see video.

Mac:

The current release of EyeTV supports the US version of the HDHomeRun but not the DVB-T verison of the HDHomeRun. DVB-T support is expected in the future.

The HDHomeRun software download for the Mac (plus VideoLAN VLC) should work.

Linux:

The HDHomeRun will work with MythTV (latest svn fixes branch) and with HDHomeRun Config (GTK) + VLC.

I would recommend starting with Windows as it is the easiest to diagnoise if something isn't working.

How does viewing the steam in WMP work? You open a URL?

Is it possible to get it working at all with Vista Media Center? Using the H.264 hack mentioned in another thread?

Would be cool to be able to watch TV on my main PC as well but I don't want to mess up the cleanish install with MediaPortal or GB-PVR.

Just received the HDHomeRun here... I got a courier box and had a big surprise when I opened it and it was the HDHomeRun - the box is so small! Good start guys.

Now to unbox it. Also it would be good to see if there's a Media Center integration as discussed in the previous post.

Some fun to have this weekend for sure.

WMP can be launched via HDHomeRun Setup or HDHomeRun Config (GUI).

You can also open a URL in WMP or via the comand line:

Hi,

1) Run HDHomeRun Setup and enable debug logging on the support tab. Click OK to exit.

2) Run HDHomeRun Setup again and go to the channels tab. Click view.

Leave WMP open for a minute, then reply back with the Device ID - I will check the log.

So far so good. Installed the HDHomeRun in the lounge, plugged to the network there (over a 100MBps link, since my 1Gbps switch is now full) and I am watching DVB-T here on my laptop in the office, with Windows 7 Media Center working - all in less than 15 minutes.

Next I am going to install the software in the Windows 7 Media Center in the lounge - that's the proof.

Why? I thought everyone was planning on skipping Windows Vista?

Seriously all my laptops (three of them) and my Media Center are running Windows 7 already. But I do have a Mac OS X 10.5 machine here (wife's) and I will try on that one too.
