Do you really want to pay the £180 broadcast TV Licence fee that they pay in the UK?
I wouldn't support a specific fee. For starters ... too hard to enforce. That's why the NZ on Air fee was wrapped into general taxes.
General taxation is the most efficient way for a the government to raise $$, The argument against the broadcasting fee at the time was that 20-30% of the fee was being used to collect it, and given pretty much every house had a TV, ( it was 1999) it was easy to justify moving to being funded out of taxation,
They UK is now discovering the problems of trying to keep a levy when there are millions of people who simply don' t watch TV let alone the BBC...
