Seems that the same stuff is broadcast on most/all SBS channels? How often do they differ? I would like to know which SBS channels to delete please. Thanks in advance.
Yes, the same programmes (SBS One) tend to show on SBS 1, 3 and 4. My aussie mates say there are rumours of new material in the offing for the other channels - maybe even a sports channel (they seem to have rights to a lot of sport, and do it well). However SBS 2 is sometimes called WorldNews Australia, and is largely foreign language newscasts. When they do their own news, all channels appear to have the same programmes.
I am keeping all my SBS channels, in the hope they stay and SBS 3 & 4 develop their own personalities.

"SBS will use its new second television channel to provide around-the-clock coverage of next year's soccer World Cup in South Africa.
It will also use the channel to resolve a scheduling clash this winter between two sporting blockbusters: the Ashes test series and the Tour de France.
The digital-only channel SBS TWO began broadcasting last night with Adam Elliot's Oscar-winning Australian animation Harvie Krumpet, which SBS co-funded.
SBS managing director Shaun Brown said one of the major drawcards of the new channel would be more comprehensive sports coverage, including prime time repeats of action from the UEFA Champions League and the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in August, and blanket coverage of next year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
"We'll be able to turn that into an event really that will be on 24 hours a day, either on SBS ONE or SBS TWO," he said. "When SBS ONE is running it, there will be an alternative film or documentary on SBS TWO. When SBS TWO is repeating some of the matches from overnight, SBS ONE will be doing its normal schedule."
Similarly, SBS TWO will show the Tour de France while SBS ONE will show the Ashes. When the Ashes is not on, the cycling will screen on SBS ONE.
SBS TWO will replace the SBS World News Channel, which since 2002 has screened repeats of its foreign-language news programs. These will continue to be shown during the day. But the appeal of the channel will be broadened through evening programming such as sport, documentaries and nightly movies beginning at 9pm."

Do you have a sky decoder or anything else being shared with your DVB-S tuner? Try disconnecting them all and just have your DVB-S tuner connected.

The LNB on the dish can only work in one orientation at a time. So if it's being held in Horizontal by any other box then you won't get any signal in the Vertical plane. To tune in SBS you need to disconnect everything else, and then you'll be able to scan for it. Vice versa applies, if you're watching SBS, the other boxes can not watch anything in the Horizontal plane.
So once Ive disconnected my stb, scanned the channels in and reconnected my stb, I should be good to go except that I wont be able to watch SBS while Im recording Freeview / Sky or vice versa?
You got it. Unplug everything else (and make sure the one thing left does actually power up the LNB too) and then tune in that station. You might want to do this on any other set top boxes as well.
Once they all have this tuned, it's kinda first in first served. If one does manage to tune to SBS/Vertical you'll only be able to watch these channels on all the boxes. And then vice versa with Horizontal.
Check with others here, I think Sky boxes keep it on Horizontal, maybe even if on standby. So that's just one thing to check.
re- SBS very interesting as ive got a dual lnb setup through a Disesqc 4-in1 switch on the topfield 6000fe box and have the same issue of not getting any signal on the vertical on optus D1 but get vertical on optus D2, so turned off the box, disconnected disesqc and re-connected direct to the D1 lnb and interestingly the lnb still doesnt see the vertical even by adjusting the skew, so re-instated the cable and went back to channel surfing d1 and d2 lol. Might just get another larger dish later on and use that for vertical on D1 through #3 port on the DisesqC?

Pretty sure you are correct. I used to have a Sky box "just" powering the lnb (its not on a subscription and I don't receive any channels etc) for my media center and my other computer (due to requiring power and both machines are not always on). Anyhow so I had to disconnect the sky stb to be able to receive SBS, which has kinda stuffed up my setup. Can't complain with more channels though =)

whatever box is on the power pass port will power the LNB. Do remember that horizontal overrides vertical polarity, so if the power pass STB is on a horizontal channel (which almost all Sky channels are) you can't tune a vertical polarity channel on that dish. Even in standby, the STB will power the LNB. You have power off the box to stop it from sending power to the LNB.
