I guess in this case that the Dolby decoder in the HDT STB can't be doing the correct decoding either. Is it a Freeview approved box?

Maybe the Draco was also not decoding correctly. I've got a dead Draco here. I'll try and make it go and check the levels and let you know.

There are a lot of different boxes out there now, that's for sure!

No it's not a FV approved box as I want HD via component not over HDMI as my Sony TV will not switch directly to HDMI with my Harmony remote with out using convoluted and slow macos.

Try calling the Harmony support line. I had the same issue but they had me set the Sony TV up as a slightly different model and I can now switch directly to the HDMI inputs.

Nope. It's the Sony software. Been down this route when I first got the Harmony. Even went to Sony style and lined the remote up in front of their V, W and X series sets. The only one to switch to HDMI was the X series. The rest just sat there.. Lots of post on the Harmony web support forum about this problem and Sony sets..

To possibly help out Nety, do you mind logging on to your harmony account and detailing what model TV you currently use within the harmony software? This might help and is fairly easy to do.

Almost did that but was lazy... ;-)
They had me set it as the KDL-40Z4500. The TV is actually a KDL-46V4000.
I had the same issue with our old Sony rear pro as well. You could select directly all inputs but although it had HDMI listed it would not switch to HDMI. When I first got the 46V4000 and found that it had the same issue I was gutted... enough to call up the Logitec helpdesk at which point they got me to change it to the KDL-40Z4500. Now I can select the HDMI inputs directly.

:-( sorry to hear that. I understand your pain, I lived with it for years and it always annoyed me. However I can top it as we brought a cheap Technics TV from the Warehouse and that does not have ANY directly selectable inputs. In the macro you have to press source then down arrow the number of times to get to the correct input then right arrow to select! ewww

At least with the Sony you can select the input just before HDMI and then skip to the next one.

This is miles off topic now but yeah, the power of the harmony remote is in the excellant macros/activities functions, but without discrete inputs this really does become a pain. I don't know if I'd perservere with it actually.

Regarding TV3, I'm actually quite stoked that on my system at least, the volume of a proper 5.1 program through the receiver is a lot louder than the ads (which is opposite to normal tv!).

That is not that uncommon. I have to do that on my Philips. Maybe I should contact customer support and see if they have a fix for me, but I doubt it.

sbiddle: I assume you're comparing TV3's AC3 feed with the AAC feed on other channels? This is a slightly "softer" sound.

TV3's AAC feed should be pretty much the same as AAC on other channels.

nope it's not the same on DVBS feeds TV1 and 2 are quite abit louder in comparison to TV3 untill you get an ad break then it's actually louder than TV1 and 2

ac3 is more quiet then other channels as its 5.1 ch sound met for surround sound systems i have dvb-t on my pc and it not quiet at all for me its the same as every channel
