The Freeview HD guide has been changed overnight, in readiness for the programming switch at 6pm tonight

'Four' is listed on 4, and C4 is listed on 9.  No sign of any change to the Sky guide.

I think if FOUR want to be serious about going head to head with TV2 they need to go HD, particually if they are going to run high rating programs that where in HD on TV3. Again I think this is a backward step. Had a look at the Simpsons last night did not look a patch in SD, the interesting thing was TV3 where advertising the Simpsons on FOUR and the promo was in HD...looked fantastic!!!

Lets keep the pole running, here is the link again...

I've got to say I think it would be a waste of money to go HD.

1,2 and 3 broadcast "HD" - but there's only a few shows that are actually HD - it's all nearest-neighbour upscaling.

As for The Simpsons in HD - although The Simpsons hasn't been funny for ages, the widescreen/HD transition in a useful marker for episodes not to bother watching. It's just cashing in on its name, and letting useless celebrities boost their own egos.

I haven't seen the new "FOUR" but if they're leading with The Simpsons, it seems very much like C4. Money's better spent on good shows than HD broadcast costs (and the hyperinflated premium networks must pay to studios for HD versions of their shows).

sbiddle: Have you seen Media Works' current balance sheet? If not you might want to look at it.

One thing us HD fans forget is that the vast majority of viewers still don't care about HD 5.1 content. Spending money that won't generate any extra return in revenue isn't a great business case.

The promos of the Simpsons that play on TV3 are SD. TV3 do play some ads in HD, but all show promos are SD. Therefore it would look the same on both channels.

Maybe your TV or STB doesn't upscale SD very well. Buy a better box maybe and you might get a better upscale?

I would just like to be be to watch FOUR. Freeview HD is not available here in Nelson and I dont have a dish so cannot get normal freeview.

If there was a firm date if/when freeview hd will be coming to Nelson I would be more prepared to get a dish if I knew it was going to be 2013 etc. But as it stands i could pay to get a dish and settop box and hd comes the next month and would of waisted that money

The plans have been before the end of June.
Our newspaper ran a story on it a few weeks ago, link here: http://www.times-age.co.nz/local/news/hd-to-rule-wairarapa-airwaves/3939941/

I just think freeview aren't ready yet to give a date, as work might take longer than expected.

Looked it it briefly the other night. Actually, I don't think that moving it to HD would be top of my list to improve it.

Top of my list would be doing something about the god-awful logo they have adopted (a huge FOUR) smeared across the screen right og centre on the bottom. If their marketing droids insist that they have to have an irritating logo, can't they at least make it smaller and shift it to the corner of the screen. It's nearly as bad as the huge 3-block fern on TV3. What would be wring with a small discreet "4" right in the corner?

IMHO, the fact that the channel is in SD is a distant second to the awful logo they are using in terms of making viewing an umpleasant viewing experience.

The FOUR channel bug could have been worse.

I have some programmes off SyFy channel in the US, they have a channel bug plus a couple of lines of promo stuff that changes through the programme.

Oh, for the old days when our screens were bug-free.
