steadysteve: i think it does - anyway there are similar newer asus cards available with HDMI

interesting...are you saying that the sound goes via HDMI to the TV and then to an amp?

atm i take TV sound via an optical cable to an amp - so that can stay as is. i like it

No I send it both places as once, both via the HDMI to the TV and to the AMP at the same time.  Generally I keep it as stereo, but can if needed push it out 5.1 for the amp.

Pity windows 7 can't always send 5.1 to the digital coax/optical, and always put stereo via hdmi...

davidcole: I wouldn't recommend the Nova T though.

What problems have you had with the Nova-T 500? I only ask because I've been using one as well as a HVR-2200 for some time without incident.

I might be having issues cross frequency recording, like driver corruption. I'm working with the developer of nextpvr to try and figure it out. At the moment that's what he thinks.

Also they seem to run at different strengths even though they're off the same splitter, and the drivers are pretty old (and not specifically built for W7). Just little things like that.

Don't get a nvidia 210. They can't really hack the 1080i content. I have one in my bedroom htpc and I live with it but it wasn't a good choice my 9400 which is older goes much better.

note, this has turned into a HTPC thread! Surprised

(maybe it should be moved?)

i like it - thanks everyone - i started off not knowing which way to go, but i'm sold now, on the HTPC way

i just need to explore all the options and make some choices

steadysteve: yes good specs. i think that silent technology is essential for HTPC

I used to buy only passive as silence is a big thing for me too. Bought a fanned 4670 and cannot hear it in the HTPC under the HDTV.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=309&pid=269&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

This Sapphire has a very large fan which obviously spins pretty slow.

So, passive is not necessary for silence.
