anyone else notice your tv randomy turn on overnight with the smartvu connected?

both my tvs will just randomly turn on .

i know i can turn off hdmi-cec, but its so useful i'd rather not do that.

You didn't accidentally hit the chromecast button on something you were looking at, it can turn the TV on?  Never had it happen just randomly though.

Generally caused by updates as far as Im aware.  Mine used to do it as well (its been relegated to a system with no CEC) and my MiBox-S does similar things once every now and then.

My smart vu has annoyed me enough. Lockups, overheating, crashing and now plex wont work. I need a replacement.

We watch freeview, plex, netflix and disney+. Is there anything out there that can do all of those. I want to use the online freeview, not through sat/aerials.

If you want good quality freeview streaming, the vodafone tv box IMO seems to be one of the few options, as it has good quality video streams. The smartvu I found far too unreliable. Good idea but not up to it IMO, so I returned mine and switched it for the VTV.. That along with a chromecast should do it.

So, I noticed the remote has an IR transmitter on it, can this be used to control the power etc of a tv?

ziph: So, I noticed the remote has an IR transmitter on it, can this be used to control the power etc of a tv?

It is the HDMI CEC feature (info here https://www.howtogeek.com/207186/how-to-enable-hdmi-cec-on-your-tv-and-why-you-should/) that controls the switching of channels and power off / on etc.

So each time remote is pressed, for example it might wake up TV or change the source if on wrong source / channel.

You can control what it does in the HDMI CEC settings. Sometimes it easier to turn this feature off. For me, sometimes randomly changes the channel when using another device, which gets annoying!

P.S. The smartvu remote is Bluetooth not IR.

Sorry, to clarify, I know about HDMI-CEC and it's function, however after pulling apart the remote it definitely seems to have an IR emitter on the front of it.

Ok so got one of these devices just the other week and seems pretty good, no overheating issues at all, (well for now anyway)

So what I would like to do to make this perfect, is to sideload a few apps, I followed an older post on doing this but unfortunately it's seems the smartVU is just a little to smart! it won't allow me to download anything within google chrome, plus the apps I want to load are not available in the play store which seems very limited in what it offers.
The apps I'd like to load are

7Plus ,10 play, 9 now , BBC player and ITV hub.

I have the APK files for them, so if you know a simple and easy way that would be great.

Thanks

I think the simple answer is you can't, it's too well locked down. I gave up on mine because it was to limited.

I have two of these, they work very well for me. I had the same problem you have. I now use an app called "send files to TV" ( look on google) Install it on your PC and SmartVU device. you can then transfer files between the two and install the apk.

Or install the X-Plore file manager from the Android TV Play Store and then open the device that you have the .apk files stored on and install from there.

Note also that X-Plore has what it calls a "WiFi Server" (web server - default port 1111), which you can also browse to and upload/download files too - although it's not particularly fast.

Anyone here side loaded ESPN or MotorTrend apps on a SmartVU? Wondering if these work before I buy one.

Or does the Freeview apk run on other devices like the Mi Box?

No it doesn't. The latest versions will only run on the Smart Vu device.
