foamfollower: "Our channel will only work with Freeview Approved Terrestrial Product (it requires MHEG5)." Not so good for the Tivo!

At a guess I would say also a 'internet connected tv'. It seems it may be a internet delivered channel using a mheg5 video app.. just at a guess.

Watching Sports.. consuming peanuts (and your internet bandwidth) :)

I am more concerned with part that said "..on the Kordia terrestrial Freeview platform."

mrbbi: Their website is now active http://www.sommetsports.co.nz/

The video they have there looks promising content wise... I don't have my hopes up though

Doesn't mean they have it exclusively necessarily. E.g. Sky do not show every single epl game, so the rights for the other games might be available. Afl featured very heavily too, which we know sommet has rights for. A lot of the other sports were x games type things, surfing, skiing, which are probably available pretty cheap.

That just means they're going to be on Kordia's mux.

Confirmed tonight on their Facebook page - when asked what multiplex they'll be on, they replied "We are the lucky last on Kordia".

What does that mean for those with MHEG-4 recorders like the Panasonic? Surely we'll still be able to record this new channel on it,

If it's the last Kordia spot available, does that mean no more room for channels on freeview, or is Kordia only one of many providers of channels? Excuse my ignorance, maybe this is basic knowledge to some here.

Guess we have to hope that the new Optus Satellite coming is parked at 160E and Kordia gets a Transponder or 2 on it

mheg5 is the electronic program guide (epg). If the panasonic is a freeview unit with freeview epg you will be fine.  If a unit is a non approved and doesnt have the freeview epg then no it wont work

Anyone know what picture quality they are going to broadcast in? If it is going to be SD then what is the point!

They also say that it will be funded by advertorial content. If they broadcast non live sport will the advertisers be happy with most people fast forwording through their adverts?

Over on Facebook, Sommet say "SD at this stage, there is no more room to do HD until there is a new MUX." And they add "Nearly all the sporting content is HD."

because it is better than not seeing it all!

a) a lot of people don't fast forward through ads, even on stuff that is recorded
b) you cant fast forward ads on live TV anyway, and most sports is watched live so no fast forwarding.
