I'm guessing because they've been distributing an NZ-ready version for some time - i.e., many of those fixes aren't needed.

Tried the tweaks in this guide,

I cannot see any change in CPU utilization which is between 20-40% when running PowerCinema on any channel.
I'm using 8800GT's so I assume these are up to the task - not too worried about it but reading this thread I jumped at the chance to see if it would work making my PC do less work.....

Unlucky for me I guess.

hi guys

firstly long time lurker, first time poster......anyway ive been reading the thread with much interest, and i finally got full hardware acceleration (HA) to work with powercinema on win xp, and with dvb viewer on both vista and xp. Ive been mucking around with this for ages to try and get the HA to work. To get power cinema HA to work i edited the ini line in the movie setting "enable_dxva_xp = xxxx"
I changed it from false to true. And now i get between 2-5 % CPU load on tv3 channel. It seems to me that when there not board casting a programme with no HD content it sits at 0-1 % CPU load, standard SD channels seems to range at 0-3% CPU load. It seems to me that with power cinema it is doing full HA, which is great completey offloading the H264 decoding to the gpu's (2 x 9800 gt's in sli at 670/2000). I have no idea as yet how i got HA to work in DVB viwer on both os's. But the HA difference in terms on cpu load seems to be the same. I know that i put a heap of codec's on to the computer, like 4.17 k lite mega codec pack, the power cinema codec, and i stripped the codec's out of power dvd 8 (lastest trial), hd pack 1.7, clvd 190708 (not sure of the name). I will try to get this to work in vista and post back.....that's it for now........regards Singingbird

Yes there are as they have H264 on board HA, because basically 9800 gt's are a tweaked up verson of the 8800 gt's

I can't remember the specifics, but I seem to remember that when the cheaper GT8500 and GT8600's came out (after the 8800 series) they had full hardware acceleration for HD-DVD and Blu-ray codecs and were actually more advanced in this area than the 8800 series. Not sure whether h264 acceleration was part of this though.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

Sorry but I wonder if you could be a little more specific. I'm running WinXP with PowerCinema 5.1 (bundled latest version) and I'm assuming you mean the tvsetting.ini file? My system has a copy in two locations, both with different contents. Neither contain a line that looks like "enable_dxva_xp=*"
Can you please advise which ini file, which section within the file, and maybe I need to add that line to a particular section?
I'm currently getting a rough average of 20-35% utilisation with a GT8600 and E8400 CPU. Thanks in advance.

I found the actual file name is MovieSetting.ini in the path you mentioned above. I tried changing the line:
"enable_dxva_xp=" from false, to true as you suggested, and just can't believe the difference it's made to my CPU utilisation.

Tests so far with my 8600GT and E8400 CPU give the following
TV1/2 (SD upscaled to 720P): 1-2% - haven't had a chance to try native HD, but playback is about 0-3%
TV3 (HD 1080i) : 1-3%
HD Test Channel (HD 720P): 1-3%

I'd been led to believe WinXP wasn't capable of this, so this is a fantastic result. Some of the time, Task Manager even reports 0%.
Stability doesn't seem to be an issue yet, and there don't appear to be any problems with lip-sync or stutter.

, yes i was lead to belive that you could not do it in win xp, but i the type of person that wont accept "no" for a answer. once ive testing my modded ini's for vista ill put them up to.

But!! there is always a but!

I now can only view tv1,tv2,tv3 and HD preview. The other chanels are just giving me a green screen with some flickering as if the video is behind the green. There is audio though?

If I turn of the HA mods the other chanels play smoothly!

Any ideas out there?

I had same problem recently while trying to get HA working with Radeon 3200 HD graphics on Vista Ultimate X64 but whole system crashed before trying a fix.

See this KB item from MS, it describes similar problem when using MCE. It might help resolve the problem.

I Have the sapphire 2400HD pro agp HW accelleration working on xp. Thanks for the information on the powercinema setting. I only had HW acceleration working on dvbviewer. Now it is working on powercinema as well, nice find.
The only issue I have is TV3. All other channels sit under 10% where TV3 is up from 66% thru 88% lip sync goes its unwatchable hw accelration does not seem to be working/working correctly on TV3.

I have posted my install notes for the card on the gbpvr forum www.gbprv.com (this is a New Zealand project). Unfortunatly I could not get the HW acceleration working with the software. At least now I have 2 pvr programs to choose from.
Any help on the TV3 issue would be appreciated.

Do not install the latest drivers 1/9/08 from sapphiretech.com they stop the HW acceleration working on the 2400HD pro agp card. I have placed a ticket with them about it. Only install the drivers I state in the thread (search for 2400 or my posts coolvibe).
Unfortunatly the latest drivers are the only ones that actually have the information in the .ini file that allows the drivers to install without hacking the .ini file. You have to edit the .ini file on the drivers I recommend to install them.
