@Apsattv: Heck next thing you know someone will put kodi on it and Sky will have sales shutdown!
I doubt it because the devices don't come with Kodi pre-installed and are not advertised as "free TV for life" like those other ones.

Apsattv:
Can you sniff the streams, if it what I think it is its nothing better than an android stb with an app that takes the current publically available streams and merges them together with a guide. Hence no prime, choice etc etc
If its that then it totally hackish, because surely an official service of Freeview would put together their own server platform akamai hosting etc etc

Well one would assume they are legitimate/formal streams being put together in a legit Freeview appliance with full knowledge of the contributing Freeview providers - not sure why that makes in 'hackish'. Presumably it is formally supported as well - so should hopefully work well enough and continue to work.
I have already sent several of my colleagues at work a link to the product. These are people that have asked me how they get Netflix, Lightbox, Freeview etc onto their 'dumb' TVs - they actually seemed pretty keen on the description and pricing.
'KODI' is being blamed stupidly by Sky and dumb reporters as being a 'pirate' app. Obviously its what people add to KODI that can make it access pirated content. But then you can access that through Windows, OSX, Linux etc.
I (like many people) have my own media library and KODI is brilliant as an easy to use and versatile media player - so potentially being able to run KODI is a huge plus.

Just how well will Kodi run with 1GB of ram?
I'm assuming that less "controversial" alternatives for local media libraries such as Plex and Emby would also be available in the AndroidTV version of the Play store.
Someone asked, any news on the +1 channels and Prime FTA ?
Also, not being knowledgeable about such things, what is the output like, is it ethernet ? can it feed a normal TV and hopefully a PC also (and maybe record via Emby) ?
Can you change DNSes on the device itself ?
Interested as we also have good internet but dvb-s.

So I guess there's no (easy) way to record output on a computer then. I so wish there were dvb-s Homeruns
Edit: unless someone wanted to pop round and blow up the hill in the way of the transmitter, am sure the people who live on the hill would think it worth the sacrifice...

Looks like someone has been documenting the unit already
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
Been waiting for a box that did legit freeview over net. Order complete.
I wonder if DishTV would put the application up for purchase on play if they're so inclined to regain money? I'd quite like the option of Freeview via the internet but I do not want to run kodi or have to buy a separate box to my Shield TVs.
eracode:When are these things going to be available to buy? I thought I saw a date or 'now' somewhere but can't find it again.
None of the retailers named on the FV site (NL, HN, JB, Warehouse etc) are showing any sign of this.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Bump.
Got one from Noel Leeming in Wellington today - they said the stock arrived this morning. It's also available on Dish TV site.
What interests me most is how they're achieving the server side. What are they using for a CDN. How do they handle Spark's refusal to peer etc etc.
It would be great if you could sniff the streams and see where they're originating from!

That's also what I would like to know. If these are newly Freeview created streams specifically for this device. Or the mismash of urls that have already been available on similar devices via a playlist for ages.
There is nothing NEW channel wise in the offering than current lists have.
